The funny thing is, I consider many of the folks on this board more an expert in advance fee frauds than I do the so-called authorities who are supposed to handle this stuff. Case in point - many years ago a scammer sent me a bank account located in Atlanta in the good old U.S. of A. This was back in the day when bank accounts were reported to a person outside of Eater who was not a mod. I was convinced that the lad had an accomplice in Atlanta and attempted to contact the Atlanta p.d. Ha! For starters they had no idea what the scam was and I had to explain to them in length about the scam and baiting. Then I was informed that they do not handle these types of things. They gave me phone number for a fraud department Turns out that they did not handle these things as well. Very frustrating. I have had the most success contacting Law enforcement in small towns, or as I call them the "Mayberrys" (not that I contact them often). Anyway, I am off the point, which is the folks on this board are genuine heroes. This s going to sound arrogant, but we on this board do more to combat these crimes than all of law enforcement, and I am proud to be a member. |

^I totally agree. And I think the same applies to Internet giants like Google. From time to time I get the most typical 419 letter and Google displays the following alert:

| "Be careful with this message. Many people marked similar messages as phishing scams, so this might contain unsafe content." |
No, not phishing, this is advance fee fraud, which is different. Once the potential victim finds out it's not a phising attempt, he/she might go on.
Blogger / Blogspot (google) also don't have a specific way to report fakes, you have to mark them as spam or phishing, which is very inaccurate. |
