The 'Membership Fee' may be as little as $4 USD per month. It is questionable though, whether it would yield any useful result that couldn't be found independently.
What doesn't appear to be in question is the motivation of its owner. Try to close the page and a standard internet marketing pop-up appears, offering a 'special offer' of a 7-day membership for less than $1 USD. However, take advantage of this <ahem!> 'bargain' and your card will henceforth be charged a whopping $20 USD per month!

I was using Spokeo for a while, just to test how it works - the paid version with unlimited numbers of searching. If you decide to use it, be sure you read the results right: it is a difference between "perfect match" and "partial match". First one happens when that software manage to identify the exact email address you are searching for if used to register a dating/social profile for a site already in the Spokeo database. The second one happens when is no hit with the email address and the software is searching for the name instead. In my case, after three months of using it, the hits in the second type of results were overwhelmingly more as the other ones. Another disadvantage is that Spokeo areas of search are limited to US and European sites only - or were limited at the moment when I was using it. A search engine can be a better option - first because it's free and second because that email address you are looking for may be already reported online somewhere or was used in messages changed online on some sites. For the last case, if the link to that message found while searching after that email address is no more available, you can always find the message in a cached version, if the search engine you are using allows you this option. |
