Title: Zatch Bell!: Kiyo and the the Lads from Ghana
Scammer name: Koku Kwesi and Nze Edward
Scammer location: Accra, Ghana
Scambaiter: TexasBaiter

Note: Thanks to Foreonenein for help and ideas!

Background

Many people from the United States, Canada, Western Europe, and other countries fall victim to the 419 scam, also the Nigerian scam. A dedicated group of young men and women seek to thwart the scammers by starting correspondences under false names. The men make the scammers waste their time. In the end the scammers net no money from the correspondences and the baiters walk away laughing.

A pair of scammers from Ghana had no idea what they were getting into when they started correspondence with Dr. Seitaro Takamine.

Zatch Bell! (known in Japan as Konjiki no Gash! (manga) or Konjiki no Gash Bell! (anime)) is an anime and manga series written by Makoto Raiku. The series stars Kiyo Takamine (known as Kiyomaro Takamine in the Japanese versions), a 14-year old boy, and Zatch Bell (Gash Bell) a mamodo (demon) from another world. Zatch Bell aspires to become the king of the Mamodo World and Kiyo and Zatch must fight other mamodo who aspire to be the king of mamodos.

The Story

Dr. Seitaro Takamine hears about Koku Kwesis offer from Herp Smith, a fellow professor at the University of London. Koku Kwesi asks Dr. Takamine to pose as the rightful heir to late Matthew Pozzobons wealth. Dr. Takamine decides to help Koku Kwesi get his money back. Dr. Takamines son, Kiyo, asks Dr. Takamine to be careful with the scheme with Dr. Takamines Ghanaian clients. Dr. Takamine reassures his son that he will be careful. Dr. Takamine can't go to Ghana but Kiyo agrees to go in the doctor's place. Suzy Mizuno, a friend of Kiyo, agrees to go with Kiyo.

Characters

Note: The author of the bait plays the roles of Seitaro Takamine and Kiyo Takamine. Another baiter by the name of Herp is Herp Smith. The Takamines and Suzy Mizuno are fictional characters in Zatch Bell!.

Also, all Japanese names are in the Western order (given name before the family name), contrary to the Japanese convention (family name before given name). Also, if a name is different in the U.S. and Canadian versions of the series, that name will be used in place of the original Japanese name (e.g. Kiyo instead of Kiyomaro).

The Good Guys

Seitaro Takamine (高嶺清太郎 Takamine Seitarō) - A professor of archaeology at the University of London. Dr. Takamine is a national of Japan. His wife, Hana, and son, Kiyo, live in Mochinoki, Japan. Dr. Takamine discovered Zatch in a forest in England and sent Zatch to Kiyo. In this story, Dr. Takamine hears about Koku Kwesis plight from his colleague, Dr. Herp Smith. Dr. Takamine decides to help Koku Kwesi with his inheritance issues. Dr. Takamine was told to contact Nze Edward. After Edward tells Dr. Takamine to go to Ghana, Dr. Takamine states that he cannot go but he can send his son.
Kiyo Takamine - Seitaro Takamines son. Kiyo is a 14-year old boy who attends Mochinoki Junior High School. Kiyo lives with his mother, Hana, in Mochinoki, Japan. Kiyo also is the reader of the book for Zatch Bell, a mamodo. Kiyo is well-versed about the internet and warns his father that the deal may be a scam. Kiyo is asked to go to Ghana to complete the deal for his father. Kiyo agrees to do so. Kiyos name in the Japanese versions of the series is Kiyomaro Takamine (高嶺清麿 Takamine Kiyomaro).
Hana Takamine (高嶺華 Takamine Hana) - Seitaro Takamines wife. Hana has a crappy scanner that doesnt scan passports. Hana, being the good housewife, makes rice cakes for Koku Kwesi and Nze Edward.
Suzy Mizuno - Kiyos air headed friend. Suzy is in love with Kiyo. Suzy decides to go on Kiyos trip to Ghana. Suzys name in the Japanese versions of the series is Suzume Mizuno (水野鈴芽 Mizuno Suzume).
Herp Smith - A colleague of Seitaro Takamine. Herp tells Takamine about the offer.
Fred Mike - The Headmaster of the University of London. (Note: This photograph is actually of Winston Churchill)
Hunt Izbuweeding - The Dean of the University of London. (Note: This photograph is actually of Tony Blair)

The Bad Guys
A 419 scamming ring in Ghana plays the role of Koku Kwesi and Nze Edward.

Koku Kwesi - A friend of Matthew Pozzobon who wishes for Dr. Takamine to claim Pozzobons inheritance. Dr. Takamine has been unable to contact Mr. Kwesi.
Nze Edward - The head of the Pro Security Company Ltd. In Ghana.

Other
The characters here do not exist in real life.

Matthew Pozzobon - A man who worked for the Ashanti Gold Development Company in Ghana. Pozzobon died in a car accident in April 21, 2000 on the Kumasi Express Road. Pozzobons wife, Sylvia, and children died in the accident. This meant that his inheritance money became unclaimed. Pozzobons friend, Koku Kwesi, asks Dr. Seitaro Takamine to retrieve Pozzobons money.
Sylvia Pozzobon - Matthew Pozzobons late wife.

Subj: Re: Trip To Ghana..

How are you doing, Mr. Edward? Are you in good health? My wife and son are doing fine, and my son is at the head of the class at Mochinoki Junior High. The teachers do not mind letting him go for a few days since he can complete a whole trimester's worth of work in two weeks.

Hana finally found Kiyo's passport. Suzy's parents are letting her travel to Ghana too, but they don't have a scanner. Hana scanned the passports of both Kiyo Takamine and Suzy Mizuno.

Anyways, Hana worries about the phone bill a lot, so she will not call you. However my son Kiyo has e-mail. He wants to write to you since he wants to know more about what he has to do.

Passport or not, I would like for you to obtain the visas for both Kiyo and Suzy. I need them before I can procure travel arrangements for Kiyo and Suzy.

Thank you,
Dr. Seitaro Takamine

Note: Passport0.TIF and Passport1.TIF are large blank image files. This means that Nze Edward had to spend a lot of money at the internet caf. This explains the angry e-mail that follows.

Seitaro Takamine to Nze Edward 8:56

Mr. Edward, have you made the visas yet? I have sent the passports. I need the visas now as seats may be filling up on the flights.

Thank you,

Nze Edward to Seitaro Takamine 9:15
Subj: Re: Trip To Ghana..

It IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN VISA WITHOUT A
PASSPORT.YOU DELIBRATELY SCANNED A BLANK PAPER AS IF
THEY ARE PASSPORTS. I WANT YOU TO SCANN BY JPJ IF YOU
ARE REAL.

I ASKED YOU FOR HANA'S TEL,NUMBER AND YOU ARE EXCUSE
THAT IS AFRAID OF PHONE BILL.I NEVER ASKED HANA TO
CALL ME,I ONLY NEEDED HER TEL.NUMBER TO CALL HER AND
PAY THE THE BILL MYSELF.

YOU MUST SHOW SERIOUSNESS OR STOP MAILING ME.

NZE EDWARD.

Seitaro Takamine to Nze Edward 14:49
Subj: Re: Trip To Ghana..

I am very sorry, Mr. Edward. The two passports have protected coating
that may be interfering with the scanner's ability to capture the
images. The Office of Foreign Affairs refused to provide passports
without the coating. Hana has scanned the passports again and has told
me to send them to you, Mr. Edward.

I have tried to call Hana but the line is busy. She told me through
e-mail that her telephone is now broken and she is trying to get it
fixed. Hana has to use a library computer in order to stay in touch
with me.

Anyways, in order for this to go through you need to provide Kiyo and
Suzy with their visas. If you want I can send the text details on the
passports instead of the images of the actual passports themselves.

And to make up for the inconvenience, I will give you an extra 3,000
British pounds. I am very serious about this deal and I wish for it to
be completed.

Nze Edward to Seitaro Takamine 17:27
Subj: Re: Trip To Ghana

I do not understand why you find it difficult to scan
passport copies for the visa to be procured, instead
you are scanning empty and black papers to me. Again
you are avoiding to provide any tel, number to reach
you,Hana or Kiyo. What do you think you are doing.

We are beggining to suspect if you are the bonafide
Next of Kin to late Mathew Pozzobon.?

Note: Time to bring Kiyo in!

Kiyo Takamine to Nze Edward 14:58
Subj: Why is this happening?

Hey you! You are making my dad all worked up about sending the passport to you and yet you are telling him that you don't have what he sent you! My dad doesnt even know how to operate a scanner and my mom makes me scan everything! I scanned that passport twice and it works on my computer!

What is the point of arguing about this with my dad? Your computer is crappy, as it can't even open a UMAX scanner file. Why do I have to deal with someone elses terrible computer system?

Note: Kiyo is going to be the bad cop for awhile. Hes an asshat in Zatch Bell!, so he will be an asshat here.

Hana saw Kiyo's e-mail to you and made Kiyo send it to me. I read Kiyo's e-mail to you and I was dismayed at his rude response. I am deeply sorry about his behavior, but he can be a bit arrogant at times. Hana scolded him and told him that he needs to act more professional when talking to you.

Anyways, time is running out. Maybe there is a way to procure the visas without passports? Hana and Kiyo suggested that there is something wrong with your computer and it cannot read UMAX Scanner files.

Note: And the Dr. is the good cop.

What is your telephone number,I need to talk to you.

Edward.

Dr. Seitaro Takamine,

Thank you for your mail.I demand to talk to Hana and
Kiyo.At first you said that Hana was afread of paying
tel.bills and when I accepted to call her myself and
pay the bill, you said her tel.line has broken down and
to talk to you,you said that you have a hearing
problem from childhood,so with all this, there is a
strong cause for suspicion that something is fishy. Now
who is deceiving who? I receive scanned files from
other people, why is it that yours is different?

Please there is no way we can procure visas without
passport copies.

Sincerely yours,
Nze Edward.

My phone's out. My dad told you that already. It's taking forever for the dumb phone company to fix the line.

My dad and my mom get on me all the time. My idiot mom tried to make me send a long, dumb apology letter to you because she didn't like my e-mail. Sigh... School is a drag and so is home. I want this to be concluded now! I look forward meeting you and being away from my parents! I will be the envy of my school once I brag about how I've been to Ghana and (aside from Suzy) nobody else in the school has!

Isn't your country corrupt? I know about how things go in West Africa. You can get some visas without passports, can't you? Get the two visas (one for me and one for Suzy Mizuno) and send them to my dad.

I am very sorry for the inconveniences.

We have had so many problems with the phone situation. Hana has tried
to sort it out with the phone company for so long. It is best for you
to continue correspondence through e-mail.

As for the passport scenario, it is because we have a UMAX Scanner and
that the Scanner files cannot be read by your computer. That type of
scanner is the only type sold in Japan.

Sincerely,
Dr. Seitaro Takamine

How are you doing, Mr. Edward?

You haven't gotten back to me about the visa scenario. It just so happens that our family has these problems. Why can't you accomodate the scenarios by securing a visa with the text information on the passports? As they say, "The Customer Is Always Right."

Are you going to go through with this? If you are, you need to give me the visas. It would save you a lot of grief.

If you want, I can get you more gifts.

Sincerely,
Dr. Seitaro Takamine

Well, I am unable to scan my passport and not only do I have a hearing
problem, but my wife's phone is broken. The security company is
begging for passports which I cannot scan, since they say that they
will procure visas with them.

Is there any way I can get a visa without a passport?

Thank you,
Dr. Seitaro Takamine

Are you Koku Kwesi?

I'm Kiyo Takamine. My dad's sending me and Suzy to Ghana. My dad told me about your e-mail and I wanted to reply.

My parents and I have had so many problems scanning those damned passports! Nothing has worked! So many things are going wrong! Isn't there a way around this? I know you are a doctor. My dad is a doctor too. But I know things in West Africa are different from things in Japan and England.

What if I just typed in what it says on my passport and Suzy's passport? Shouldn't he take it? He'll get just about everything on the passport. I'll send it to him right now.

Dear sir

I have recieved the passport information you sent but
that will not be enough to secure the cable entry
visa.

The imigration need a copy of their international
passport copies which has their passport photo.

Kindly attach their international passport by email,
Use JPG scanning to enable it open directly while
downloading.

I wait for your urgent response so that we can obtain
the visa immediately

Regards

Mr Nze Edward
