Hi,
I got a hit on my website which lists items for sale including a $2000US van. I got an email from a Nigerian scammer:
I've sent the original to [email protected]

Here's the email:

Hello,

I read your ad and i am intersted to purchase this van at such an exciting
price.

please do get back to me if you still have it for sale.I'll be waiting to
read from you soon.

You can call me on +44703184225[modifiedmissinglastnumber]*

I've used a new hotmail and fake name to reply, although they did find this on a blog site of mine so I'm a touch concerned they could find me if I push things too far. I'm thinking of wrapping it up soon, with "my" phone number, and encourage them to use it, which would connect them with the local RCMP instead.

Has anyone ever tried to take over a scammer's computer with a fake photo file? I know this one is using Windows 98, and it should have a flaw in the .jpg processing part among other things, so it would be childs play for some people to set up a fake site with the picture of a van, and hook the guy's machine with a system exploit. Since it's overseas, odds are local laws about unlawful computer access wouldn't apply?

If anyone's interested in doing/helping with that part, or has advice, please reply.

Right now Mrs Helen is waiting for a picture later today, and their hotmail account is still working, I've not reported it to hotmail yet.

First of all, welcome to Eater!

Secondly, if this scammer has any contact information about you, Drop it. Always better to live another day by running if in doubt, than continue ADT!
3rd: Grab A mentor
4th: Send an abuse to Hotmail regarding this scam. Post full headers - the more evidence to back up your claim the better!
Finally: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES H4CK! This is against the law in almost every country in the world. Chances are it is in yours Too.
