This was my first attempt at baiting a scammer in the Small Business yahoo chat room. I'd sat there for only about 10 mins when felicia messaged me. She pointed me to her profile, said she was a model looking for a job. Picture looked like a black girl in early 20s. Leaving out the preliminary chit-chat, here is the way the conversation went verbatim:
kaliban: You have a small business or just hanging out with business men?
feliciaokon2000: i need someone 2 help me cash a cheque?
kaliban: Can't you cash a check there where you are?
feliciaokon2000: nope
kaliban: What's the problem exactly?
feliciaokon2000: the cheque will be coming from d USA and i do not have d facilities to cash it here
kaliban: What kind of check is it?
feliciaokon2000: a cheque just for a payment of a job i did
kaliban: No, I mean like a personal check, cashier's check, money order...?
feliciaokon2000: personal cheque
feliciaokon2000: which will have ur name on it
kaliban: My name? YOu mean YOUR name.
feliciaokon2000: nope ur name
kaliban: Why mine?
feliciaokon2000: since u will cash it for me
feliciaokon2000: cos i am not resident in d USA
kaliban: So then what do you expect me to do?
feliciaokon2000: cash it and have some for d troubles and send d rest to me
kaliban: How much is this check?
feliciaokon2000: $9,800
kaliban: And how much would you be willing to give me for my 'troubles'?
feliciaokon2000: 10%
kaliban: $980, right?
feliciaokon2000: yes
kaliban: Okay...let me see if I understand you, felicia....
feliciaokon2000: ok
kaliban: I cash the check for $9,800 at my bank....
feliciaokon2000: yes
kaliban: Keep $980 for myself....
kaliban: Send the rest to you someway...maybe Western Union?

kaliban: Then a few days later your silly check bounces at my bank, the bank is angry with me, you have my money and gone.

It's one of the chat rooms on the Yahoo website. Small Business chat and then some number. Usually a bunch of spam bots and check/merchandise mugus are there. |

When I read this post I had a quick go. OMG it is mad in there, all this little pop up windows jump at you and people wanting to send you $20000. WTF.
One guy I thought was a baiter so I said I would send $419 as the first payment, he didn't get it so I suppose he wasn't. A mad mad mad place. It will be a while before I go back in there. |

ummm.... www.yahoo.com and then go their chat link. Choose small business. Make sure you chat bait safe, if you use a Yahoo account with any link to your real self the mugus can find your details. |

Yes, I should have stretched it out some, but as it was my first chat bait I was a bit impatient. I really should have gotten some more details, addresses etc. I guess I felt I'd set her up pretty well and was ready for a quick coup de grace. |
