Hello everyone and welcome to my first attempt at a long bait. Let's see how far it goes.
I snagged one of the emails in the Surplus 419 Letters subforum at random-- turns out a military man has a lot of money to hand out! Lucky me! And he's American so there's no way there could be any hanky-panky involved, right?
...right?

I am Raymond Lee. I am an American soldier presently on active service in Afghanistan. I served with the Third Infantry Division in Iraq, before thousand of my lucky colleagues were pulled out in August Last year, leaving me among the unlucky ones drafted to Afghanistan where I am serving presently. I found your contact detail in a address journal am seeking your assistance to evacuate the sum of $7,000,000.00 to you as long as I am assured that it will be safe in your care until I complete my service here in Afghanistan. This is not stolen money and there are no dangers involved. Do get back to me with your response and i will forward more information to you. Email <redacted, can be found in the thread if you look>
Respectfully submitted.

It's funny how his email says he's in Afghanistan but his IP says Dhaka, Bangladesh... Well, they're only 1725 miles apart, maybe he took a short trip to the local Bangladeshian internet café?
Notice how in the email following my response he doesn't seem to mind at all that he never sent me an original email to begin with-- he's very much happy to get a message from Mrs. Rosswitha Rachel, the rich Christian widow of a trader specialising in exotic animals. Maybe we'll get a Kneavel pic or two out of this.

Oh Mr Raymond--
may I call you Mr Raymond? I am dreadfully sorry for acting in such a personal and assuming manner-- especially to a member of our Most Honorable Army...!!
Goodness knows you poor, dear sweets get enough trouble wherewithal as it is already, what with the war and the rising numbers of Dependa fiancées in this decade!
Please do let me know whether I can assist you...!! I am but a lonely old widow, but as my Pappy used to say "there's no sacrifice too great for our BOYS...!!". At the time I didn't exactly understand what he meant by it, but then the Misters up at Washington replaced regular Southern Comfort with MRE packs and I heard the most gruesome stories of men sacrificing their gut health...!!
But we must PERSIST! As James 1:12 says: "BLESSED is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the LORD has promised to those who love him."
AMEN...!!
Wishing you all the best and L.o.L. (Lots of Love),
Mrs. Rosswitha Rachel |
Mrs. Rachel doesn't only really like exclamation marks and random capitalization, she also had a mother who apparently watched too much FRIENDS. I'm hoping that to start the exchange off by talking about various constants in my life he'll swallow the possible death of various assistants, dogs and ex-husbands much easier...
She has great pity for army men, lucky guy. All those MREs and Dependa fiancées looking out for their money... tsk, tsk.

Hi
Thank you for your response Firstly I want to appreciate your concern towards the troops and also for responding to my email, I got your email from the internet as I sought for someone to partner with, let me apologize for intruding into your email without prior knowledge of whom you are and also thank you for your bravery in responding to a total stranger as I believe that God has ordained that we will meet.
Am Presently on active service with 4th Squadron in Afghanistan. Few months ago we were alerted of the sudden presence of some Terrorists camping in Mazar-i-Sharif, a suburb not too far from Kabul here in Afghan. After Immediate intervention, we captured three of the Terrorists. They confessed being rebels for Abu Baqir a Taliban sub-commander and AL-Qaida group leader, and they took us to a cave in Mazar-i-Sharif, this served as their camp. Here we recovered some boxes contains some millions of US Dollars, me and my colleagues decided to share it among our self and my share was US$14 million USD.
I split it into two places and placed them in two different box which I deposited with a private diplomatic Security used mostly by our forces that can send goods easily through diplomatic and private military way, to anywhere in the world without them being checked at any port of entry or customs, I told them the box contains Fragile Family Personal Gifts, so they don't know what is inside and they can never get to know. Basically, since am not among Hundreds of our colleagues that were withdrawn back to the states or know where my fate lies anymore, I cannot continue to keep these funds with the Cargo Company for as long as I remain here.
I trusted a lady who promised to help me receive one of the box, but since the box arrived with her, I haven't heard from her, for over 7 Months now. I need someone I can trust 100%, who will not run away with this funds. Currently, the only box left with the diplomatic security agency is worth the sum of 7 Million USD, and I want to send if over to you for safe keeping if you are willing to work with me. You will have 40% and I will have 60%. For security reasons, this transaction must be kept very secret, and should not be disclosed to anyone else. As long as you follow my instructions, I can assure you that this transaction is 100% risk free.
Do get back to me with your response and I will forward more information to you.
Please I want to trust you. Please let's work together and make life good hereafter.

He doesn't seem too keen on answering my email with anything but a standard regaling of his sob story, although he's probably glad to hear he's encountered a hardliner Christian. After all, no old Christian lady could ever be up to something, right? Also, really liking the guilt trip. A regular victim would feel pretty pressured by that expectation, I'd assume. But if it means he's been baited before, all the better! |

Mrs Rachel is quick to step up to the task, after all she's always been keen on (getting into other people's business) helping the unwashed masses with her charity! If anyone knows the character list of FRIENDS, Roy the Stripper (wonderfully played by Danny Devito) might re-emerge occasionally in those emails.

Dear Mr Lee--
or is it Mr Raymond? I'm always awfully confused about those newfangled names young people have today. In my day and age we had ONE first name and ONE last name and by God, that was plenty enough for all of us and to go around sharin...!! Nevertheless it is a rather charming name and reminds me of my own sweet pup Roy. What a beautiful, darling bulldog he is, even if he is rather old and crotchety these days and his fur strips rather rottenly...!! But I suppose we must all be eventually, HA HA!!
Mr Raymond, I pray that the LORD has delivered you unto me to do good for both our souls. The money is rather a second concern, for if you can keep a secret I shall very quietly tell you that my own darling hubby has done a great deal of excelling in breeding rare animals for zoos and other rich beast-lovers... But you must keep that to yourself, dear sweet Phoebus always told me I am too trusting and rather too talkative. We shall keep that a secret, yes...?!
Truly I am sorry to hear that you were thusly deprived of justice and I am sure that HE will swoop down on those days where the trumpet will resound and the dead will rise and punish her rather beastily! As Deut. 4:36 says "Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire."
Yes, I will pray for you this night and will especially consider the old testament's interpretation of crime and punishment. Tell me, Mr Raymond: are you a Christian? I believe I could not bear talk to anyone who is not. What is your favorite prayer? I should have a nice night of reciting it for His Glory And Love.
Do let me know and L.o.L. (Lots of Love)

I think scripture websites are gonna require a bookmark in my browser from now on. She's a babbly old woman and I expect him to ignore everything I've just said. But that could possibly open up avenues of misdirection when we're "better acquainted" and he continues to ignore her questions.
And true to form he straight up gets to the next part of his plan: trying to get her to volunteer information about herself. Well, not so fast.

Dear Friend,
Thank you for your response, I want to assure you that everything done here are strictly 100% legitimate so you do not need to have any doubt. This is a turn around for both of us and I need you total support and trust to work this out. Your percentage still stands at 40%. The most important thing is that the diplomatic agency that will be handling the delivery are very good trusted and reliable used mostly by our troops. They send goods easily through diplomatic and private military way, to anywhere in the world without them being checked at any port of entry, the baggage will be tagged Family Personal Effects, and the Handling company, are not going to know the contents of the box.
I am very sure you will know the best way to handle this money for us, when it gets to your place. please let me have an address where you want them to deliver the box to you. As soon as I get it, I will start making arrangements as to sending the box to you.
Your Address?
Your full names?
Are you single or Married?
What do you do for a living at present?
Can you handle these funds carefully?
Please I need Your Direct Telephone numbers.
I will also want to see your passport copy or id/,driver’s License so I know who I am dealing with OK .We need to build trust OK! You know that the security is very important, you can not trust anybody therefore remember to keep secret secret. I hope you are OK with this? Make sure you check your email everyday because we don't have much time on this, I need your urgent reply in this regard.
With Respect,
Raymond Lee |
I'm sure he relishes the opportunity to call her a friend... especially if it means he can mass-send those emails to everyone who bites.
He's very eager to get all information and proceed as fast as possible... which is a joke, considering he took almost 48 hours to reply to this! Let's let him stew for a while. Attached are two JPG pictures of a luggage case with money in it (from google images, no doubt) and a laughable JPG scan of a supposed passport/ID. I didn't want to download them b/c of possible malware, but if someone wants to upload them, I can forward the email.
Obviously I'm not gonna give him what he wants straight away, but how best to mislead him? Should I make a fake passport? What do you guys think? |
