I'm not sure if something like this has been discussed before, so sorry if it has, but I had an idea.

What if we were to play "pass the parcel" with a lad & baiting character? For example, let's say I get a lad on the hook. I play with him for a set amount of time (2 weeks, a month, whatever is agreed upon), then pass the baiting email address and password on to the next baiter in the line. That baiter changes the password, and I am no longer part of it. The new baiter reads all the correspondence and tries to take on the part of the character for the same amount of time. And on and on.

Each new baiter would bring something new to the baiting character. It could be an utter disaster, the lad might notice something is up if the character's turn of phrase and attitude change periodically. Or it could yield hilarious results. Perhaps the original baiting character has split personality disorder or something. Or, some baiters could be so good at emulating the character that the lad never notices.

The final compilation of emails could be a very interesting read, depending on how long the chain lasts.

Anyway, just a thought. If it sounds interesting to anyone, let me know. The finer details can be ironed out.

That does seem kind of interesting, although I worry that the vast majority of lads would not have the patience to stick around for long enough to let multiple people have a go. Two weeks seems reasonable, and this system could work with multiple characters too. I'd be willing to try this out for fun.

I know that game from a computer game, where bored players started a savegame, then played 10 hours, passed the savegame on to the next person, etc.

the very same thing with a lad, could be funny.

It is an interesting idea to have "communal lads" like this. I would be willing to try it, but I share Mr Mystery's concern that it might be tough to keep most lads interested for very long. You'd have to find someone willing to donate a lad that was already well hooked, or get a good feeling about a lad that shows up in your box.

Also, it makes it tougher to do the type of long-term planning that is needed to get trophy pictures, filled forms, or safaris. That could be part of the challenge though.

Big X is definitely right that this would not be conducive to safaris or fun trophies unless the lad is already well-hooked, although if the right lad is found it may still be fruitful. Even then, I'd still be willing to try this to see if anything interesting could come of it. What could also work as a variation of this is have people add new, interconnected characters every week instead of having different people play the same character. This would still have the same problem that most lads wouldn't be patient enough, but it lets more people be engaged at once and maybe makes it easier to bait for trophies/safaris. The only way to know if this would be an issue is just by trying it.

well, we could do another experiment

some sort of massbait: how many characters in one single bait can be done.

is there a point, where the lad loses track of all the characters.

for example: lad gets into touch with a larger company, which sends in more and more lawyers.

This is an interesting idea. You might want "pass" the lad quickly, such as every day. You could all have access to the box (if you change the password all the time, especially given that the ip's will be in different countries, etc. the email provider might close the account - just pick a unique pw that you only use for that box such as groupb8eater1). If you have seven baiters you could each be assigned a day of the week where it's your turn to talk to the lad. I've never done a bait like this, but I did do one where another baiter and I were both in the same place and we took turns on facebook chats with lads, each of us just responding in our own style and completely ignoring each other's. The lads didn't seem to notice, but it was fun. I imagine that something with an email bait, if you can keep the lads on the hook would be great to read and would also have lots of potential for lad travels, etc.

ETA... I also like the revolving character idea, though I could see lads simply ignoring the extras unless they're well hooked.

@sportbluecanyon I'd think that Archie's too busy right now, plus we may scare him off. Big X would be a better judge of that though.

@Robert That's kind of what I was getting at. People could go out and find promising lads, and after they've been on the hook for a few weeks start introducing more and more characters. It would be interesting to see what would happen.

@Padme I really like that idea of doing it by day of the week; that would at least make it a lot easier to coordinate. The issue, although I suspect this is minor, would be ensuring that people will be consistently available on the day of the week they're assigned. This would also require a lad who consistently talks daily, otherwise some people would be a bit left out. There's definitely opportunity for experimentation with these setups.

Do people this would work better with straight baiting, or if we were to do this, should we go for safaris or something like that? If we take Robert's suggestion, I kind of like the idea of trying to church bait or masquerade as some sort of video/music company. Still, the only way to know for sure is to try it.

just a technical aspect, if there is one account that is set up to communicate with the lad, each participant could set up an account, which accesses that account through pop3/smtp or imap.

for example gmail, easy access to other accounts with pop3/smtp, and it would not cause the system to block that account.

it's then just a matter of coordination... and since everyone has a mail-account dedicated to this bait, it could be done via mailing list (just avoid having the lad on the list).

Normally I would be open to this, but Archie is pretty used up from years of heavy baiting. He knows about baiting, he barely trusts us as it is, and he is increasingly paranoid. I think if he sensed that someone was messing with him again in any way, he would drop us all. I'd rather not risk that.

I think we would be better off with a new lad and new baiting characters. More room to move the bait in a different direction that the group agrees on, rather than forcing other folks to work within the boundaries that Mr L and I have set with Archie.

Great idea. I've not seen this done from the same bait box but I once baited a lad that wanted to join my church and got him to post a photo of his wet wienie back in 2009. The photos no longer load.

It cleared up quite a few misconceptions that baiters may have had at the time. He ended up in the hands of Bravo95 who safaried him twice, got him clowned, had him looking for the Holy Grail in Benin, posted photos of himself dress up as Gene Simmons of KISS then passed him on to Bobdemol.

In 2011 Bobdemol posted up a thread that truly is worthy of being included in Eater's Greatest Hits.
