Happy Christmas etc to all.

I'm not here to bait though I would LOVE to try, especially after reading the early safaris, turd, etc etc. Thank you eaters for ruined keyboards etc. I am in awe at what has been achieved! And Birlic - i check in nearly every day now to read about your exploits!

The world has moved on though since shiver started this place. I help small businesses run their sites and it is no longer about easily recognised 419s on individuals, but much more about credit card etc scams. Still advance fee stuff.

The tutorials are now a tad out of date e.g. Example photos are no longer hosted etc.

Can anyone share some up to date photos or examples so I can help a few businesses recognise these CCs? Also, other scams being pulled that affect small businesses.

I would be more than happy to make a donation to eater for an active baiter to become a full member if that would help?

I have spent months here (I'm sure my ip can be found in the log files easily enough!) But many of those I deal with are already wearing 20 hats trying to run their biz and simply need a basic intro and some expert advice in an infographic or something to make wise decisions when scammed OR most importantly, to avoid it. UK govt is failing on this advice. As are no doubt other govs.

If anyone can help to create something really simple for small businesses of what is likely to come their way in 2018, I will happily pay into Eater in some way as a huge thank you.

Welcome to Eater! Here is a credit card product lad bait I did a few years ago: https://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=266567 . Typical traits of this type of scam are:
*He has his own shipper.
*He orders something without having a clue what it is.
*He asks for payment by Western Union.
*His English comprehension is poor. (If he were scamming in French, his French would be poor, mutatis mutandis.)
*He asks to split a transaction over one card.

I agree with everything vonxlu has said, especially if the lad asks, that he wants to invest in "your country"... not knowing which country he has actually addressed.

there is another hint in a scam-mail (most of the times): the initial letter is rather well written, and adresses you as a company "I have heard about your products, I am interested in your products", but the receiver is "undisclosed recipients". means: he pumped that out to as many victims as the mail server allowed to, and all of them are BCC. sometimes lads hide that by having one real recipient... quite possibly a mail address they own (which would indicate to a real business, that this mail was meant for somebody else... that should be a red flag).

there is a litmus-test for such a mail:

register a new mail address (obviously, that just needs to be done once).

send out a mail to the senders address (either sender or reply-to-address) with his mail as quote, and tell him, that you are interested in doing business. a real customer would be puzzled by that request... "why does paul pots pork pies ask for doing business, while being situated in north korea", a lad would just go ahead and start doing business...

it's not bullet proof, especially lads, who once had contact, will try to engage contact again via a directly addressed email... in this case, the "undisclosed recipients"-test would fail.

Robert Heinrich der 1. and vonpaso xlura both make good points about recognising CC scammers. Another scam I would suggest you read up on is the "business email scam" which can hammer small businesses. And finally if any of the businesses you support do their banking online I would suggest reading Brian Krebs blog ( krebsonsecurity.com) with particular reference to his recommendations for banking safely online

All the above is excellent advice. I have a client who runs a small mom and pop Nutritional Supplement company and she received an email reading (as best I can recall)

Hello. I saw your site online and would like to place the following order

36 bottles of xxxxxx
42 bottles of yyyyyy

I will be paying with credit card.

Now that was about a 4 year supply of those products that totaled more than $4,000. In looking at Scamwarners we saw where this guy was hitting up quite a number of Nutritional Supplement companies. The point being that in general these type of emails tend to be those that would apply to any company but you will get the occasional lad who will take the time and effort to tailor his email to a specific company/product.

The photos are down because photo bucket decided to start charging. I think it's something like $400 a year for third party hosting and they didn't give much notice. Everyone is trying to play chatch up and it's a pain.

You said you would love to try baiting. Try if you want and move at your own pace. You don't need to get trophies or safaris to make a difference. Hurt lads in their wallets if you know what I mean.

Try straight baiting or just play dumb, whatever it's up to you and you don't have to donate anything unless you want to. Hang out, try baiting and see where it goes.

Welcome! Yes, the trophies are few and far between (for me) and just a bonus anyway. You can try straight baiting - just send one email a day. Simple. Don't get too carried away. Or there are other ways to "bait." Some guys are experts at finding fake websites or credit cards. They don't get the "humorous glory", but are helpful to potential victims.

If you choose to bait, get a mentor. They can be very helpful along the way!
