I haven't accepted his friend request from this obvious fake profile, but I'm going to see how far I can bait them for. I use another last name on facebook and personal info only shows to friends. He can't get his story straight as he says he's a widow but his profile says divorced.

Welcome to Eater! Now, drop this lad immediately and learn to bait safely. These people are criminals and some know thing or two about hacking and/or getting your personal info in other ways. Even if you trust Facebook settings to protect you (I don't), it is simply not worth the risk just for a few laughs.

I know they're criminals, but they still generally stupid. They can't even spell or write in English properly while pretending to be English speaking, and don't even make their profiles look real.

^^^ Don't underestimate lads. Have your fun with them, but do it safely and don't take chances.

Also, when an experienced baiter gives you good advice, it really might not be the best idea to just brush them off.

We encourage everyone to practice caution when baiting. As long as there's nothing linking you to your fake Facebook, that's fine, so long as you can trust FB's security to keep things that way.

Welcome PPowell.
A large proportion of new members here have started out baiting on their own without being aware of the risks, so we prefer to err on the safe side when it's not clear from the original post.

Facebook is very good at identifying potential links between profiles so be very careful that you are not logged into your real facebook account (assuming you have one) to look at scammer profiles, or looking up your personal page/real-life friends from your baiting one.

FYI, I edited out the quotes from a couple of your posts above. Around here we ask members not to use the quote function if they are replying to the last message in the thread. Quoting from further up in the conversation is fine. This is intended to make the forums easier to read.

So because they were stupid they assume I am? I thought this was a place to bait scammers, but it's just annoying know it alls who keep saying rules, don't quote etc. I'll find another forum where people are interested in baiting scammers

I was recently involved in a facebook standoff, that actually ended up with several people taking legal action against each other IRL
What was surprising (I grew up in the old internet days of NEVER EVER use your real life details name etc) was how easy it was for me to track down the attackers of the group I was with!
I rarely use facebook, and stupidly thought other people would be similarly discreet- especially if they were intending to go around attacking people online for the business they were in (security)- what shocked me was the security people were almost as dumb in posting enough details to be able to track them down- bad if you are in the business of getting people put in jail!

The troll/attackers were equally dumb, and were quite panicked when within 15 mins I was able to tell them their real names,their favourite coffee house, where they and their parents lived, their and their parents business names and even had images of them, their cars, their houses and in one particularly dumb move, his little sisters new credit card- shown front and back!!!!!- all available just from scrolling not through their facebooks, but their friends facebooks!!!!

thats why I use a completely fictitious baiting system, I even use a separate account on the computer as I noticed several times that even when I logged out of things like google and facebook, I was still showing up as me when surfing so called anonymously, hence the use of a separate logon account on the computer, separate browser for baiting, and that account never accesses my main accounts stuff (my real f/b, real emails etc) and vice versa

Allow me to say this as nicely as I can before this thread gets lock.

Collectively we have shut down tens of thousands of bank accounts. If you get bored go and count the piggie banks in the signatures. Collectively we have reported tens of thousands of stolen credit cards. Those are the black piggies in the signatures. Collectively we have shut down thousands of phony websites. In short, the people here are experts. See the shiny badges in the signatures of some of the folks? Those represent arrests made in which these people, working with Law Enforcement, were a driving part of. When it comes to baiting, simply put, you will find no more knowledgeable group of people than the people here.

Do you know what we don't have? We don't have a single member whose real life identity has been discovered by a scammer. Do you know why that is? Because we know what the fuck we are doing.

You will find no group of people more welcoming than the people on this board. Unless, of course, you come in acting like a dick. Which you did.
