Nice start, I think you've made a good choice by choosing a pilot character, and the "meddling wife" creates interesting possibilities as a bait continues. We'll see if he accepts your excuse for not having a private phone. I expect he may be able to get past it as you're also showing great interest in getting the money. As far as whether he buys your story, next couple of messages will tell.

FYI: this type of scam, once he decides that your character is worth pursuing further, he will put you in touch with a "bank official" to submit your application. I'd expect this to happen soon. From then on you'll be corresponding with two scammer characters, with the first one just serving to encourage you to cooperate.

Yeah, you may have told him too much at the early stages of your interaction. It also looks like he's accelerated the normal development of this scam by introducing a fee already -- maybe a tester to see if you are serious.

If it doesn't work out, maybe next time slow down a bit on revealing your personal difficulties ("wife issues") and introduce them more gradually as things develop.

Don't be shy about giving lads a fake phone number - there are plenty of sites out there you can use to generate some convincing ones.

Lads are often telling me they're calling me, asking me why I don't answer the phone and whatever, but I usually just ignore that and divert their attention away by talking $$$. $$$ is to lads what a doggie treat is to dogs.

If you want to avoid the phone, next time you can plan in advance, dropping little hints for reasons you can't use the phone.

If you are going to stick with Germany

you could write in slightly worse english, apologise that you are really terrible at speaking and listening, and offer to call his office if he has a colleague who speaks German. I use this a lot with my "Chinese" characters and they are very happy NOT to speak to me.

Or indeed, you might be able to introduce the "eavesdropping wife" excuse a little bit more carefully next time.

Other members will probably have other suggestions about avoiding the phone (or using voice mail systems), this comes up fairly often.

I like the story so far and I don't think you've lost him already.
Just be a bit cooperative until he comes with the fee. You are very willing to pay him the money! Smile

I'm sure he will forget about the phone for a while.
Since you're a pilot there are a lot possibilities to delay.

Great first start. One thing many new baiters don't realize is that for every baot that is published here there are hundreds if not thousands that died quickly. So cast your line and reel in another one Smile

One thing I have found is that if I quickly cooperate with the personal details and simply omit the phone number they often just move right along. Also if they are asking for ID I will oftenn just answer the questions and put ID attached but attach nothing and they move right along.

But you just gave me an interesting idea. I first wanted Heinrich (me) to lose the money while gambling after selling his car. I mentionned a few times that I like gambling so it wouldn't be that big of a surprise.

Instead of that, I can make Heinrich win a LOT of money while playing. I'm sure he would give me some advice to invest the money. This would also allow Heinrich to divorce and include his crazy wife in this bait.
