I got an email from "Western Union" saying that I am entitled to compensation as a scam victim. This particular scam is the lowest of the low and makes my blood boil.

Unfortunately, I don't know that massbaiting would be particularly wise, as the email was not sent to my catcher account, but my baiter account, and it was sent "To" my baiter account rather than BCC.

I'd love to give this lad some sleepless nights, so depending on what more experienced baiters have to say, either we can massbait or I can go it alone.

The more I think about it, it is pretty strange either way. If I had been scammed before, why would I be corresponding with orphans and barristers? If I hadn't been scammed before, why would the "scam recovery" angle be used?

The lad definitely sought me out and sent it to me, because like I said before, that email address isn't anywhere on the Internet.

You could mention that you have some friends who were also scammed, and ask the nice man if he has a compensation fund for all of them too, and if he wants our email addresses to contact us with the good news. I'm sure the lad would be thrilled at the bonanza of new magas.

If you have used it to bait more than likely a lad either sold his list of emails, provided a few to a buddy, or got a new script and sent it to his whole list. I doubt it was personal.

Could it be one of your lads, or even a lad you responded to only once, coming at you from another character? Maybe they figure if you responded to them you have responded to others and this format might be better than their other one?

Just because your email address was in "To" rather than "Bcc" doesn't mean that you are the only person it was sent to. Some lads will use mail blasters to individually send mails rather than BCC'ing as they think it will help avoid spam filters and make them look more legitimate.

That's a good point, B8er, but the lad must have gotten my email address either from another lad he is working with or from a careless lad who left Gmail open in the cafe while he went to the bathroom or something. I just created the email address a week or so ago, and I have only used it to contact three different lads.

Well, you guys seem to think it is fine (and also, I was addressed as "dear" instead of my baiter name, so it's clearly a stock email), so wanna massbait him?

Remember, we have all been scammed before, so he will need to jump through some hoops first.

Edit: change of plans. I might try something else instead.

The lad is from Benin, based on the +229 number. He thinks I'm a wonderful little maga, or he wouldn't have sent this sort of email in the first place.

However, he may be too late. I'm already planning a trip to (Accra? Lome? Abuja?) to meet with a government official to recover my money. Since I've already been scammed, I refuse to do anything other than meeting in person. I, of course, will assume he's working with this government official.

What do you think?

Oh, for sure.

Abuja might be a bit far. Accra will work, though there's a good chance that he'll just turn me over to an Accra lad at that point. We'll see. I haven't even responded yet.
