I second the "no burning" as the single most important aspect of the bait. If things look like they're going south I'll just drop him and let him wonder.

When I first started I enjoyed the screaming when I told them what was going on but now I do my happy dance when they cry and fade away to be baited again.

Never burn a bait.

In the fall of 2014, I ran into a very special lad. Since then, he's used 11 different email addresses and one Facebook profile I know. He's closed 9 of those email accounts as they all reply with bounces now. It's been about 8 months since I've heard from him.

A few days ago, I was looking at old emails and I found a long string of exchanges with him. As of April 2015, he had sent me 366 bank accounts. Over the course of the next year, he sent at least 250 more. Honestly, after he had sent a total of 600, I just stopped counting.

I watched his FB page as he left Nigeria and moved to Ghana. His reputation was ruined. The four cars he had owned were sold. Associates would not communicate with him. But something changed and he returned to Nigeria a few months ago.

So, I found that exchange and decided to poke him. I started a reply, removed the subject, leaving "Re:" and erased the entire contents of the message until it was blank. Then I hit send.

Since then:

Sorry. I was cleaning up email. That was a mistake. I didn't mean 2 bother u.

He wrote:

ok that is good and did you get your money finally

COS I WANTED TO KNOW , NOW YOU SAID SOME AND NOT EVEN ALL , IF YOU HAVE AGREED T THAT MAN HE WOULD HAVE GIVEN US THE TEST AND THEN GAVE US THE TOTAL OF THE ACCOUNT WE NEED .

I love it when new life can be breathed into an old bait. I've known quite a few lads who have come back to my characters over the years, presumably out of desperation. Which is a state I like them to be in.
