I have an old lady friend, who I believe 1000000% is being scammed. This man she met on a dating website, Frank Thomas, supposedly lives in Norway or Sweden. He supposedly works offshore for a Norwegian Oil Company. He has never once been able to get off the boat to come home and see her because he says he is stuck there because his company is making him pay all this money for employees or materials on the rig hes working on, and his mom is in hospital needs money because they wont let her leave unless they pay for the services, the dad is in hospital, the son needs money, etc. He says he has 2 million dollars but the "FBI" has seized it or frozen it due to them thinking its terrorist funds, so he has to pay $7000 to get his money back?!? To think someone believes this crap is BEYOND me, but this woman is like 73 and lonely and COMPLETELY BELIEVES HIM!!!!!!! She has prob sent him 5,000-10,000 since last year. I have a picture of the passport he sent her and the letter from the FBI. I have told her these are scammers and she does not believe it because she doesnt know why he would keep going on and on if she always tells him she doesnt have money. I say, BC this is his job! I have even heard his voice, its a carribean or african accent. Not european. I have worked in oil n gas before and I know they do not keep you on a boat for almost a year because you have to pay to get off the boat! it is just lie after lie. how can I help this woman see she is being scammed?! I have tried to locate his IP via email address, but it gives me yahoo's address in CA. I have called the phone number, it is listed as NY number and no one ever answers. It goes to an answering machine, but nothing ever like a cell phone voicemail. You can tell its like a company or something. But, old naive people do not know this stuff! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are set up to be a victim resource site and to show all the signs it is a scam.

BWare gave you excellent advice. This is a well known Romance scam. If you visit our sister site (link at top of the page) the folks there can give give you help in dealing with your friend. There are dozens of Romance scams listed and there's a chance some of the scammer's "jobs" are listed.

A quick Google of "Frank Thomas Romance Scam" turned up nothing on Scamwarners. I highly recommend you post the details there OP, especially if you have access to the e-mail address the scammer uses, and any phone numbers.
