Hello all,
I'm a newbie in my very first baiting. I've gotten my lad off script and I think I might need to introduce some other characters into the mix. A pastor would be one that I can think of for now. Maybe more if we can potentially get this lad on a safari.

So far it's going pretty well but I don't want to get overwhelmed with playing multiple characters. My mentor (shout out to Duckling) suggested I ask the community for some help.

Thank you,
AlDente.

Dependent on how the lad wants payment you could have a crooked bank manager or WU employee. An accountant if you are a rich maga, an ex wife who wants your fortune, spoilt children trying to steal your inheritance or even another lad who has hacked your email (or your lads).

Interestingly I've been stringing him along and he hasn't even asked for payment yet. This is one of those "poor old lady died and left me 2.5 million pounds. How do I want it paid to me. Bank transfer, Global ATM, etc."

I've been playing an old man not very smart with web mails or internets and easily confused. My 2nd to last email was that I had to consult with my pastor. Last email was that I consulted with my pastor and he has reservations.

I'm thinking that potentially my pastor could get involved and ask the lad to join our church and it could go in multiple directions from there. My character would remain the willing and trusting old man who just wants to help my business partner (lad) and my church.

Any takers to be my pastor?

You can either 1. set up another account and be your own pastor, or 2. just relay the information your character's "pastor" is telling him through your character's emails, or 3. you may get an offer from another baiter. I personally like option #1 but it's your call. Welcome aboard, BTW.

Playing multiple characters can be very difficult in the beginning, and even for seasoned baiters.

The second option I mentioned would be good, then - at least until you get another baiter on board. That way, you only have to come up with a statement or two to throw your lad off balance.

I often start with option #2. The lad can't argue with your second character and has to follow the lead. After a while you can create an account to actually play the character out to the lad.

Welcome AlDente!

Count me as another vote for #2. I used to try and introduce multiple characters early on, and this can be hard to juggle.... I'd end up doing all the work writing emails in different voices, before the scammer was convinced we were worth his time.

I like the idea of introducing a pastor, a natural confidante who can get in the way of the transaction (perhaps he's already getting the old man to donate loads of money, leaving nothing for the scam until "later"). Especially the way you introduced the pastor, it seems to me you could leave this character "off stage" for the time being and continue the conversation just using the first character, alluding to the pastor regularly as an important person in your life.

This way you can sink the hook in, convincing the scammer(s) you are likely to pay out and thus worth the effort.... can always introduce the pastor as a real, active character as things develop further.

I would also go with Option #2. This would help to draw things out even longer.

Have you published your bait? I can't wait to read it.

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments and suggestions.
I like option #2 as well and I am currently relaying my "pastor's" comments through my character. Working out quite well thus far.

Thanks for the offers to bounce ideas...appreciate it.

And the saga continues...
