HI , A old colleague and friend on facebook posted me the 419 link after I had put on the status page, a paste of an email telling me I may be in line for 5.4 million dollars as some guy in the USA has breathed his last blah blah, the use of English and Grammar tell me, he/she doesnt use English as their first language, close but not convincing enough. So... I'd like to do this scam baiting seriousy, I'm in my fifties, have the time and motivation but could do wih a vet to give me some general pointers on presenting the bait to hook this fish and get him to swim and splash around. I know your busy people but if there is anyone who can nudge me towards which posts/strings to read, I would appreciate your kindness

Eater University is great, I'd recommend reading all the threads in there at some point or another, no real rush though. The main thing is to use an email that can't be linked to you, the same for any phone number. Stay safe.
I'd specifically recommend https://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=179969 The straight baiting examples, they're quite helpful.

Welcome to Eater I would recommend you sign up for a mentor those guys are awesome. They are really helpful. and extremely knowledgeable about baiting. They show you ways or different angles you can use. If you get stuck, They will show you diffrent angles to play. Starting out they are with out a doubt the best resource to show you around. I have learned so much from mine.

you can sign up here and its free

Welcome to Eater!

Definitely sign up for a mentor.

Start by creating a baiting character. Place him (or her) at an address that does not exist but is plausible. Create an email address for that character, making sure it has no connection to your real life that the lad can trace. Then write to a lad from that address as if the lad had spammed your character his script.

All the biggies have been mentioned already.

Baiter University and getting a Mentor, then you set!

Add a twist by having a funny name the lad wont coller onto, i have 3 i use

Harry Ballsich
Pastor Dan Gleeballs
Monie Grahber

Most of all, enjoy it and cause as much lad pain as you can!

Use everything you can find on this site but IMO the two most important things are: i) absolutely zero connection between your baiting persona and "real life" (e.g. set up a gmail baiting account) ii) create a character you can believe in yourself (just one to start with - confused old woman, generous gullible priest, whatever) and iii) don't expect too much too soon. OK that's three things.

You will find that part of your brain will start to think "how will Reverend Norman Wisdom / Lady Milko Magnesia etc react to the lastest demand from Barrister XXXX". It's actually quite relaxing.

Welcome.

First rule: bait safe.
Second rule: have fun.

Trust me when I say that your free time is about to get way more exciting.

As for signing up for a mentor, I was under the impression that I had complete understanding of this process and didn't need any help. Then I signed up and found out how wrong I was.

Everyone else has given excellent advice, so I'll just say, Welcome to Eater!

You may get a high percentage of lads who just flame out / stop responding or don't respond to your first note. There are many reasons for this, many of which will have nothing to do with you, so don't worry about ones who drop -there are plenty more to move on to. (check out the "surplus letter" section of this forum for lad emails you can cut/paste and reply to from the gmail/yahoo/etc. fake account you set up for baiting). A good initial note to a lad can say simply, "I received your note. Please let me know more..."

Also, while baiting safe is an absolute necessity, don't stress too much over other things like if your character story is good enough, etc. Just experiment and see what works for your style and above all have fun.

Lastly, while forum stickies are usually boring at best, the ones here at Eater are highly informative and make for good reading, so read those as you go for sure.

Hi and welcome. I'd just be repeating the advice of everyone else but the biggest thing (apart from baiting safe) is don't expect too much too soon. It takes time and effort to get remotely near the standard of the more 'professional' baiters on the forum.

A mentor is a great introduction to baiting so don't be afraid to ask for one.

It helps to be a role-player. I've found it quite easy to be whoever I'm claiming to be and to think, write and (if needed) talk as.

To create a character that you can believe in yourself ... and to create a character that you enjoy pretending to be - to me, these are essential in the long run. I've done lots of experimenting. Funny characters, weird characters, I-am-so-much-a-victim characters. Some were quite fun; some were actually very boring to play out. Good enough for 'I think I'll waste their time for one week', but not good enough for anything longer. I bored myself.

My favourite character is actually an exaggerated teenage version of me. Most lads hate her (too young, for a start), but when one likes her, we can go on forever. And I love playing the pre-mature, ever-changing, rather volatile, decades-ago, over-the-top reflection of myself.

It is your first time to use western union so therefore none can blame you. It is always like this at the first experience. - Yes lad, and at the second, and the third... you'll see.

I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers?
