I guessed the lad is in Namibia because he is clearly African and appears to be writing in German. I've baited a lad in South Africa who had a colleague in Mozambique, but I don't think I've head of a lad in Namibia before. Is the lad actually writing in German, or maybe is he writing in Afrikaans (which has lost all person/number agreement in verbs) and translating it to German? |

I think you are right. he writes in german, but he uses "bin" every time instead of "ist", maybe afrikaans uses the 1st person singular forms for everything.
and he uses quite some forms which do not work in german.

I sent the lad a mail from one of my baiter addresses - in perfect Afrikaans. (it's my first language after all!) We'll see which language he replies with. If he really is Namibian, he would be able to understand and I'll let you guys know. |

The lad isn't Namibian - in fact definitely not even from any of the other southern African countries. He doesn't know a drop of Afrikaans and he has no idea where in Africa people speak Afrikaans. Anyone who knows Afrikaans would have jumped on the one English phrase I sent because it's a well known joke amongst Afrikaans people - I can like to have that... This lad didn't even bat an eyelid.
Now I'm having fun sending him really long messages in Afrikaans - with a lot of padding - and the information he wants is always somewhere in the last paragraph, but never right at the bottom  |
