Legality of posting falsified documents online?

I am new to this, and just completed my first scambait with someone after 1 month and 100 emails.

I saw on one thread it isn't advised to create fake IDs - which I understand and agree with... but felt like I had to to keep the scam going for so long. What is the legality of this, like if I were to post images of my fake passport/utility bill/moneygram/etc? The fake Passport is pretty terrible, and the utility bill & bank statements aren't real banks. Could I still get in trouble for posting online?

Sorry if this is redundant. I get overwhelmed by the forums I'm still getting accustomed! I hope I'm not a bother.

Indeed it is.
For stuff the lad sends you we encourage reposting it to aid others in identifying its originator as a villain. Edit the image with "fake" or "stolen" over it do it can't be reused but will still be picked up by Google.

Will it get you in trouble? I doubt it, if no crime is attempted by you and the intention is to spread awareness and reduce harm. Anyway we've been doing this for over a decade and there have been no arrests. Carry on! Smile

Congratulations with your first bait!
I don't know about legality of posting fake ID's. I don't think you will have problems with it but indeed we do not advise to use these. If you send fake ID's or documents to a scammer you give him more tools to use against real victims. There are many other ways to convince the scammer you are real.
Take your time and read some articles in the Eater University forum. You can also sign up for a mentor.
And no you are not a bother Wink

You will see that there are many people who are willing to help you with your questions.

First off all welcome to Eater!!! I asume you are staight baiting so your pace off 3 mails a day is to fast.Some exeptions aside.(hitlads..multiple characters) it's adviced to reply after 24h or even longer.I know from experience when you start out it's tempting to answer fast to get a reply.There is no need to ever give any ID or receipt or whatever they ask you to send.You will soon find out yourself.I never got a bait where the lad dropped me because off not sending ID.Numerous baiters use great way's around from ignoring the request to send them empty files or eternal excuses.Apply for a mentor.Read the sticky's and eaters university.And bait safe!!!

If it's your documents that you sent to the lad - and that sometimes happens because you send out the payment confirmation slips etc it should be okay to post those - it's not linked to any real payment whatsoever and it's not used in any criminal activity like NailGunner said Wink

As for the ID - like you've read already no IDs are being sent. No matter how terrible they may look - if my family members got a fake US ID for example - they wouldn't know any better - hell even I don't know what all passports look like (and you never really know when you realize Canadian money looks like monopoly money and their passports glow Laughing

)

To be on the safe side - if you feel the document might be abused - just watermark it with words "FAKE" (http://www.scamwarners.com does that for you when uploading the image) - that way a normal person knows it's not a real document and scammer can no longer use it - be it document you sent or you received from scammer.

Subject to the caveat that we don't send ID because of the risk of reuse, the legality would depend on intent-are you attempting to defraud the recipient? If the answer is "no", then have at it.
