Hi guys. This entire world of scambaiting is new to me (within 3 days) as i have just experienced my first contact from a scammer.

I am trying to sell my car online and in the three days since posting the amount of people who have contacted me trying to hit me with the paypal scam is unbelievable. Most of them have been by text message though i have one email scam attempt.

As I am super fresh at all this I don't yet feel confident to bait this guy. I know its not the classic nigerian scam, but this seems to be a fellow countryman of mine (i'm in ontario and he claims he's in PEI, Canada) im really pissed off about it and was hoping any of you guys could take him on.

Our top priority is keeping you and everyone else here SAFE. You'll see the term “bait safely” over and over because it's what we do. Your anonymity is of
the utmost importance. Never, ever, EVER, EVER give ANY of your real life details to someone you suspect of being a scammer. This includes name,
address, phone number and personal and/or professional email addresses.

Remember that as a scambaiter, you'll be dealing with REAL criminals and we don't want any of those creeps to be able to track anything back to you or your
family and friends. You'll need to pick up a separate email account and use it for all of your baiting activities. It must be STRICTLY SEPARATE from any
other emails that you already have. You want one that strips your IP, so use a freebie like gmail or inbox. That way the bad guys can't locate you by tracking
your computer's IP address.

If you'd like to bait these lads, first get a mentor, then set up a baiting character with no connection to your real self and an email address for your character. Phone is optional; ask your mentor. (I use Skype, but there are other ways.)

Respond, from your baiting address, to a lad as if the lad had responded to your character's ad for a 2011 Pontiac Firefly or any other model that doesn't exist. The lad contacts hundreds of people at a time and won't know that he didn't contact your baiting character.

^^^ Hey! Don't you diss my fave 2011 Pontiac Firefly, it's so much better then the old '68 Ford Mare I used to own.

Anyways, as other have said, I would suggest dropping the contact now especially if it's your fellow countryman. But if you want to feel safe, the best thing is setting up an email that hides your IP (just to be safe, GMail is probably the most favorite one round these parts) completely detached from your real self. I actually use a different browser to bait (Chrome is my personal broswer, Firefox for baiting as not to mix accounts up...) but that's optional.

Getting a mentor is a good idea. He/she/it can then guide you through your first baits!
