Don't worry, I didn't mention baiting.

He kept getting upset that I said I was sending payments but they were never turning up, so on a whim I told him I was a 13 year old kid just messing around. I said I felt bad for the rich sick widow but I didn't have any money to help her, so I was stalling for time hoping she'd die peacefully in her sleep, comforted by the thought of her finances being taken care of.

Rose (rich sick widow) has managed to cling to life, and is saddened but understanding. Lawyer guy is kind of pissed:

Nice moves. Also, a nice indicator of the morals of this "businessman".

Confessing to him that you are joking him around throws him a nice bone, and your new found honesty should stand you in good stead later. Don't forget to refer his new friends to him so they can share the effect.

I'm up for this one. Just do me a favor and email this lad and tell him you spoke to the pastor at your church (please keep it generic) who was more than willing to help him at his time of need.

I was all set to pull on the old jackboots and advise about educating lads and all that. But you played that well.

And the result is very instructive: the lad is begging a 13 year-old to find someone with money to give him...... Talk about utter slime.

By all means, let TLH play a role as a pastor. It will be all the more believable to the lad since you played your kid role completely straight. Thumbs up

My tuppence worth - yep well done. As far as the lad is concerned your character is a 13 year old kid and the b*****d thinks he can use him as a conduit to get his pay day. No mention of baiting per se so Juan won't be wearing his jackboots today - not a pretty sight I am sure.

If you need an elderly aunt to write to him Elizabeth is ready and able to do so (from your orphanage bait)

I think this kind of "admission" is a great baiting approach. Real victims can and do lie to the scammers, and here you have nicely opened the door for an even more convincing baiting angle (Especially with TheLoneHaranguer as a pastor - I am looking forward to seeing how that goes).

I would suggest staying in contact with him, in character as the 13-year-old, while your "adult contacts" conduct the business. I'm sure you can effectively waste at least some of his time while still remaining completely in character.

There's a nice symmetry here - on the scamming side you have the dying widow with the lawyer guy taking care of business, and on the baiting side you have the annoying kid, with the pastor taking care of business.

TLH -- I told him I'd email my pastor and see if he knew anybody who could help. I expect that many generous volunteers will come forward.

ETA: Just got my first email from Rose and James, and it is a good one:
