product scam...want me to visit...what is their angle?

Apologies if this has been covered. I've been a bit AWOL but still baiting as much as I can. The company I consult for gets a ton of requests from Scammers for their "products". The usual "Do you take a credit card and can I use my own shipper". I've been able to collect a ton of credit cards and bank accounts from them by responding from my fake company email. Smile

However, there are recent new angles being used. My last two contacts want to buy $100,000's of dollars in products and sign a formal contract. I've even acted like my attorney marked up their contract and they still stay engaged. I've played along waiting for their usual credit cards but then they asked me to go to Hong Kong to sign the contract. Of course I played along and I am on a flight to Hong Kong now (well not really but they think I am). I've reconfirmed everything numerous times. They are picking me up. Hotel is confirmed (I called) etc.

Long story short what is the angle? Are they going to rob anyone who arrives? Are they going to demand a fee when the contract is signed? He hinted at a "gift". Maybe that is the angle?

Like I said apologies if this has been covered but I'm curious.

Personally, I am going to try to run this guy all over Hong Kong trying to find me. Tell him I couldn't find him at the airport etc etc

We'll see!

Wondering what their goal is... other than the obvious...money.

This is really interesting. I have had lots of scammers telling me I'd have to travel to somewhere because documents need to be signed, but whenever I said that I would travel, they pulled back immediately and invented all different kinds of stories to make me stay at home, and they tried to bring their lawyers or agents into the game.
I am excited to see what turn this might take

They are appearing to be legit but will cancel half the order after paying the $100,000 with a fake cheque, the company then refunds $50,000 in good faith and the cheque bounces leaving the company out of pocket to the tune of $100,000.

ETA: I should of read more than the opening couple of line, in mitigation it was early.

If your flight has a layover, you could 'miss' your connection and end up at another, faraway airport. elsewhere in HK. It could lead to a Safari.

Here are the last few emails beginning with his LATEST reply. I left out a few in the middle where he sends the contact and I make entertaining edits to it. I also left out the back and forth where he asks me to travel to meet with them to sign the contract. Also note his website at the very bottom of the email. Seemed legit but obviously he doesn't really work there. Thanks for the suggestions. If anyone wants to play with him send me a message for his email Smile

If you feel the Lad is serious about the meet and has bought into your story, look for another airport at least 200 miles away. Then, check that you can fly there from Beijing. Get the times of a real flight and go silent whilst you are on the plane. When you get there, call him and let him know where you are.

He might - but only might - travel to you, if the money is enough. More likely, he will ask you to travel and ask for the name of your hotel.

I was going to suggest a mishap at a connecting airport, but the site or my connection went down.

You may want to obfuscate your character's name, in case the lad googles it. You can change the x in the name to х.

Could you post the credit card lads you get? https://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=3454&start=195 is a thread especially for product lads, and several of us like to massbait them, so if one looks promising, you could start a thread for him.

Here's the latest. I got food poisoning on the way over and it was so bad I couldn't make my connecting flight. I am now in a Beijing hotel and should feel better within 48 hours. I called the lad and told him the situation and (you guessed it) he told me to take a flight to Xian as soon as I could to complete the contract. I told him I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get back for my daughters wedding if i went there and that the connecting flights were difficult and suggested he take the high speed train here or a flight. The train is reasonably priced and a flight is only $300USD round trip. I told him I would discount his order accordingly. Let's see where it goes....

Funny thing is I have ANOTHER lad who is doing the same thing now. Must be a new scam. He wants me to travel to HK. If you want the email message me Smile

The "gift" might be a suitcase with drugs to take back home (and duely stolen when you arrive), or to be delivered at a stop-over.

Quick update: I have another lad on the hook with the same scam. His request is "fly to meet us in Hong Kong to sign the contract". He booked a hotel for me and I have confirmed with the hotel in Hong Kong that my room is booked and held with their credit card. Weird.

Mountain Goat is going to help me Skype them from a Hong Kong number. Should be interesting. My last one (sadly) wouldn't travel to Hong Kong to meet me when my fight plans were screwed up. He did wait at the airport for 5 hours and was upset and I ran him around a little but he went away quickly.

This new lad seems very excited about my trip there so hopefully we can cause him some trouble.
