I have been talking to 'Anthony Richards' on Fb this week... the usual, US Army, in Nigeria.... and on and on. But every time I thought he got close to asking for money.... he didn't ! He asked if I thought he was a 'Scam Artist'... No, I said, Artist has a degree of the professional about him... and anyway why? Well... out poured this amazing 'confession'.

Victims, they don't only lose money, they feel stupid and sometimes they felt they were really loved. It's an awful thing to do even it you don't ask for money.

The account of course hasn't been deactivated and I am going to remind him of that after Church ! Not sure making older women feel good was just the right tack to use with me ! The 'they live large' bit made me feel sick. I know how rife it is but it just seems so commonplace with them.

The best part was he sent me a friend request from his real African profile page !

Another evening of learning for DA !!! He actually doesn't really believe he's done anything that wrong really !

He's been back on to me as himself.. William. Even emailed me a song he said he had sung and recorded for me ! That was just about as believable as his fake profile.

I won't block him though. He says he is having trouble deactivating the other account...as if ! He is very smooth and sure of himself and his English is excellent.

But I am sure he thinks I believe he has turned from the path of evil and seen the light !! He said he prayed this morning to God for forgiveness and enjoyed Church. I don't believe a word of it at all. He needn't know that. I told him everything I had said to him on FB and that profile was real and that is the real me. I think he thinks that is true the way he is talking. So I hope I can keep and eye on him for longer.

This Baiting game gets curiouser and curiouser !

DA, I think you can get good example what happens if lad came out as himself saying he has repented. As far as I know, usually turns into beggar or visa seeker but still keeps form of scamming. Post his messages to SW so when a real victim face same situation, able to find example never need to trust lada who claims as repented.

I have deactivated my real life FB several times. Took about one minute to do. A smart boy like him would know that don't you think????

Maybe he has seen the light, or knew better than to mess with you. I have doubts that he has "quit" for good. Sure he can deactivate the fb account but have a brand new one in the same amount of time. Not like that has never happened before.

My feeling is that if a lad actually repents, you'd never hear from him again until you meet him in the world to come. Real victims, though, would hear from him as he tries to make restitution.

The last scammer I say repent was one of NextVictim's baits where the "ladette" supposedly came clean, sent different pics and the usual excuse that s/he couldn't find a job. After about a month, same scam.

I'll put in on Scamwarners today.

He finally deactivated the scamming account. But... on his own FB page he is pictured in a Toyota and he has a Blackberry etc... I have no reason to believe they aren't his. I don't actually believe a word he says ! Especially ' Nigeria is so bad' ... yet he seems to be doing OK.

He thinks I am fooled though and that I believe him. So I will continue to talk with him like that. I actually think he will turn out to be a beggar. Didn't think of visa seeker.. maybe. But he says he hates the UK and wouldn't go there. Just the tack he seems to be taking.... if he gets to the US will I go and meet him for a holiday etc... apparently I am 'awesome' and he's never known anyone like me... that bit could be true Laughing

He is so smooth ! His English is excellent and he is head and shoulders more intelligent than the other dross Romance ones I've baited. He asked me what I was doing one night, I said I was watching football and told him who... straight back, no time to Google was 'Oh it must be FA cup weekend'.... never met anyone who was that switched on.... and that concerns me because he is so much quicker and more believable than the others.

So... we'll see. I like him because it's given me another experience of lads. He surprised me and it's the first time it happened, this coming out of the closet.... I will be keeping an eye on my reformed Christian physical therapist who bows to peer pressure... and sends me songs claiming it is him !

People sometimes do repent. It is not something we often see among scammers even feigned. I've had only one so claim--but he then tried to scam me from a different angle. I'm disturbed by his claim that he is making people happy (apparently) by pretending to love them. That thought is either utter bullcrap or else he is deluded. Catfishing can be as devestating to victims as financial scamming.

Sadly, it is nearly impossible to know whether or not an apparently reppenting lad has actually done so without proof he's gone about paying his victims money back or at least completely stopped trying to scam. The key word here is "proof," and that is something that I do not believe anyone here has ever seen.

Still, I do have faith that people can repent and I have belief in human redemption. Let's hope and pray (if like me, you do that sort of thing), that his claim of Christianity is real and that he has turned from this vile evil.

If you communicate with him more DA, and he is still making repentence noises, You might want to emphasise to him just how evil Catfishing is.

And of course, as you already know, even if you ever become 100% sure he has gone straight, still do not ever send him money.

I am not convinced at all. I'm the wrong person to scam. I am horribly cynical and haven't a bean ! I wouldn't pay anyone anything and it makes me so mad when these lads get a penny !

We are talking about this making people feel good and he just has too many easy answers and is far too contrite ! But, worryingly, he is still sending me songs ! I am not fooled by him.

I think I half believe him about Romance Scamming and asking for money because he had so many chances and didn't ! I think doing that is part of his modality. Rubbish Romance Scammer but I'll be your friend as me.... then starting the compliments ! As the 25 year old William from Nigeria he is a lot more confident and that's how he rolls to get money ! I am sure this, in his mind, is a reverse bait and he thinks he is playing me. I do think he believes the person he is talking to is real.

I am not letting go of him yet because I want to know if at some point he will ask for money. I am sure he will.... we'll see how long it takes !

He's good and has been so useful. I am learning more about lads because this one is different. Another experience being learned.

It has taken me a while and we have gone through some 'real life' drivel because he is reformed of course he is !

He is careful not to ask for money is my William Ebruba Onome. Charming I have to say. Great English and worryingly believeable. Although he thinks I am the rich older lady of the profile.

He wanted to meet me... for, well, you can imagine. Now, he can't come to the UK, not sure why but it suited my plans ! .. he would like for us to meet in the US. (His brother lives there..of course he does). He is going to the US in February so will I meet him? Of course I will... but Oh, his brother who was paying for his flight can't do that anymore ! Can I do it ?Of course I can !

Then later last night he was 'having a drink with a friend, we'll talk more tomorrow my sweet babe'. Of course he is , obviously toasting his success on his trip to the US. He even had to tell me his slightly different name as it appears on his passport !

He asked me at 9am if I had booked yet. I said the details were with my Travel Agent to book but here are the times etc of his flight. Business class Lagos to Dallas ! He's such a happy little bunny as I 'booked' the 5* hotel last night and sent him those details !!

He obviously hasn't needed to give a Bank Account or go to Western Union. When we get to Dallas he wants me to spoil him and buy him presents because I briefly fell out with him ! Of course I will.

All I can do has been to put everything on SW. He is worryingly believable I suppose as he takes more time and care in his scamming. He is, however, after the bigger reward I think. Sadly of course our 'dream' to meet for the best weekend I've ever had will end soon and he'll move on.

I should have put this on the Love/Dating thread but I didn't think it would get this far. I was just amused at him not carrying through the Army character. Didn't think of his 25 yr old Nigerian character would carry it through with a 58 yr old woman. I should have known better. I am tired on him now though ! He's been so much work ! He has been a gift of good experience for me. A different method of working.

I have cut the apron strings from my little Will.

He got very grabbing. Wanting his plane ticket to print out. Was it for a month? Was it open ended? I told him I had booked the hotel for a week. I would kick him out after 3 days and do some shopping....

Well !!! Glad I didn't decide to meet him in Dallas then ! He has been a different experience and not the direct, go to WU sort. He was good. I can imagine if you don't know he is a scammer from the word go and you needed it in your life you could be convinced by him.
He let me down at the end because his greed couldn't be reigned in !

At times he was fun though !
