Lads Really Getting Lazy

I got one in my catcher account today that was a basic blank slate, and had a .txt file attached with the script on it. Anyone else getting these? They're getting more and more lazy. Can't even be bothered to cut-and-paste their scripts anymore, they just attach some text file.

reply back that you don't open attachments and to send it in the e-mail properly

Don't click on attachments sent by lads. There is a chance it includes malware.

You're totally right, of course, Bware - I should have known better, although I do have some pretty sophisticated anti-mal and antivirus stuff going on here.

That's not lazy, that's smart. They know their BS gets caught by spam filters so they circumvent it by making it an attachment instead.

All mails that come in to my catcher with only files attached get scrapped immediately. I strongly suspect that some are viruses/key-loggers. Not worth the risk and I don't want lazy Lads.

I only open files once I've exchanged a few mails with a Lad, and then, very cautiously.

If the attachment is in plain text and not encoded, that doesn't accomplish anything as far as spam filtering goes. Putting it in PDF does. I've seen a few scam emails in base-64 code, but I think that more likely means that the lad is using a Chinese mail program or the like, rather than that he's trying to evade spam filters.

A plain text file opened in a plain text editor cannot infect a computer. If you run Windows, though, make sure that all file extensions are displayed; otherwise you can get a ".txt.exe" file and open it and get infected.

Scam mails that I get with attachments I post like the ones without attachments; I copy the text (but not the fake lottery logos). Some potential victims may open the attachment, and it's better if they can google the text in the attachment and find it posted on SW.

getting loads from lads to open attachments. Never do.

Also getting many that are 'Yahoo Account disabled, Click here'.... never do...
whatever account it tells me is a problem.

Also getting 'click here to see my list of goods, etc...'... No... if they want my attention they can work for it !

Not to be a fanboy here but viriuses and malware just don't work on iMacs. Attachments - at least typical .exe and .pdf - won't execute. You could tell your lad you are using an Apple and cannot open his attachment.

Virus or malware infectation can (and do) happen on Macs. Granted, less likely to happen, but not impossible in the least.

^^Very true. We had a gal at work click on a link, and BAM! It hijacked her browser (Firefox). Took a while to get rid of it.

Even though I've been on a Mac for 25+ years, I rarely open attachments by lads. And since I use the web interface for GMail, I view it, but won't download it.

I told one lad I didn't open attachments...he sent the exact same e-mail with the exact same attachment. That one truly is lazy.

My lad is being sloppy with his details.

He is telling me that a diplomatic package at the start of the email is in Donetsk Geneva airport. Then goes on to say its in Florida Palm Beach Airport.

Really geographically challenged-Donetsk isn't even close to Geneva and not on the same continent as Palm Beach!
