Really dont know what to make of this ?

Please the read the following .....the Lad admitted he was a scammer after a few emails and and caved in Shocked

I wont bore you with all the start up emails i will cut it short ....it was trunk with cash in it and he posed as a capt in the Army with a good old sob story thrown in .

It's not uncommon for lads to admit they are scammers eventually. Doesn't mean they have turned good, though. They basically will do it when they know that you know. They sometimes will even try and make you work with them to scam others. They don't really lose anything by admitting they are scammers once they realize you aren't going to be paying them.

I want to tell you that i cannot do this time is false business with you i have the fear of God you are a minister of God and you are also involving a church no no no no my conscience won't let me run scam on you and the church even though i am very poor here and i engage into this as a means of making a livelihood but not to a minister of God and a church.

If i took money by trick from a minister of God and a church which face would i go to God with or to any other church and ask for forgiveness in the end.

I won't i rather die hungry than do this to you and the church don't continue with this please let me continue in this poverty until any day it pleases God to make a way for me.

This is the biggest temptation to me and no Satan no i won't fall for it .

In the 6 years I have been here, I have only once seen a scammer have an actual attack of conscience that appeared to be real.

Every other time there has been a confession, it was one of two things:
1) The scammer judged that his standard approach wouldn't work or suspected he was going to get caught, so he "confessed." If the victim appeared to accept his confession, he then moved into a completely different scam, either claiming that he was forced to scam under duress or that he was driven to it by poverty and a hopeless situation. Soon, the scammer moved into a "I need you to help me get out of this" scam.
2) someone hacked the scammer's box and sent messages to the potential victims in it, posing as the scammer.

Your scenario obviously looks like it could easily be #1.

After reading your second post I would agree with Dorothy. It's an interesting response by your lad, but I wouldn't doubt if it's just a new angle to try and get money from you. I'd like to think he really has had an epiphany though, but I have my doubts.

Dont know what to do with this one i,m tempted to just drop it i cant see a way forward now he has fessed up .

Perhaps a church minister was a bad character with this lad , the last time i did it a greedy lad never cared and tried it on £3 k

Are some of these Lads really that poor or is it a tactic to ask for money do you think ?

If I were you I'd keep the bait going. I'd straight bait it and ask him why he would do such a thing as try to steal your money. Chances are he will continue to give you a sob story. I would bet he will ask you for money eventually, probably from a beggar standpoint. At that point, I guess it's technically against 419eater policy to bait beggars. So your bait raises some interesting ethical questions in that sense. Myself personally, I have no problem baiting beggars when they are clearly lying or trying to scam you.

Yea that makes sense ......

I will just play it by ear and send no reply and see what happens .

I know a scammer is a scammer full stop but with me being a soft touch i wont bait him anymore unless he begs for money and even then i dont think i would be comfortable with it .

Am i being stupid thinking this way ?

I just cut and pasted it from my catcher account and got a reply same day

You can certainly drop him just in case. As I said, I have seen one time (out of many "confessions") where I truly believe the lad was being honest when he confessed.

Or you could do the opposite. Stay in character and play the mentor to him.
As your character is a religious man, tell him that you appreciate him telling the truth. But you must tell him that scamming any human is unacceptable, not just scamming a church. Tell him you will indeed pray for his soul. Just do not dangle money in front of him. You are acting as advisor, not donor.

Then just see where he goes. If he goes into, "I want to stop scamming, but unless you help me financially I can't" then you have your answer.

You can also ASEM with a non-church character.

Dear sir / madamme

I appreciate you telling the truth.
But i also must tell you that scamming any human is unacceptable, not just scamming a church.
There are many poor people in my country and yours ....and as you know it is not acceptable to scam another human no matter how hard our life is .
I went to the path of God many years ago to cleanse my soul of a previous life of wrong doings we must stay good people no matter what life throws at us .

The whole church will pray for you over Christmas and your sins are forgiven my friend .

We pray your problems will end and 2015 be your year and your glory will shine once again .

Your reply is perfect. I'm very curious as to what your lad says in response to that. If he is legit repentant about his actions, your message should console him and help guide him to a better path in life. I loved how you mentioned that there are many poor people in your country too. I think that is a thing that many lads may not realize. They may picture all first world country civilians as being rich and prosperous, when in fact many go through struggles worse than their own.
