I received a Loan Lad scam email.
On the bottom of the email it was a footer for
vfemail.net

Promising security and anonymity etc. I was annoyed this loan lad had emailed about a hundred in one message.

So, I emailed vfemail.net and told them I had an email from a loan scammer and send the message and the header.

Within one hour I had this:
Quote:
That address has been disabled. I can't possibly read every email that's sent out to validate it's not Spam, so I appreciate it when an offender is brought to my attention.

so tested it ..... and it is... now I am impressed

This is the polar opposite of the twats over at mail.com who will never take any action on lad accounts ever (but will shut down baiter accounts at the drop of a hat). Good to see at least one email provider taking action.

Yes it is good isn't it. I agree it's hard to even get to someone who will take a decision like this.

But... I got an email within an hour and he was been kicked off ! Stunned and a really nice email with a contact name as well (good to know for the future).

Given me a renewed faith in people doing the right thing.

Unless it was a paid email account or an email tied to a scam domain name, we usually do not want to shut down lad email addresses.

The logic is they can easily create new email addresses, and we wouldn't know what those are unless they email us again. Better to have the enemy in your sights, than to not know what he is up to.

^^^What Big X said. If a victim or potential victim is searching for [email protected] and they are posted at SW, people can realize what is happening and tie the scam to the address. However, if you have their email address shut down, the Lad will have a new account set up within minutes and there is no direct link. This does nothing but defeat what www.scamwarners.com does.

Getting a lad's email account closed may seem like a worthwhile accomplishment but as Big X and Bware have noted, it's actually counterproductive. This has very often been discussed on the forum. Getting the account closed down is just the tiniest inconvenience to the lad. In fact, most of them expect that to happen, which is why most opening formats ask you to reply to a different address.

Successful lads keep files on their active victims so if they lose an account they can move on to a new one and keep right on going. I can't count the number of times lads have done that to me in baits over the years. They simply make up an excuse like "security precaution" and forge ahead.

In the end, you're the one who loses since it takes more time and effort for you to persuade a provider to shut down an account than it does for a lad to create a new one. It's whack-a-mole, but when it comes to lad email addresses we like to keep the mole in view, and especially Googleable.

So, please don't do it.

Thank You.
As usual I didn't think. I did list his email address and message on SW.

Apologies and another big lesson learned.

In my head I was saving people from being scammed by a loan lad.

I now know better.

While I do agree with the philosophy that shutting down lad boxes is counter productive (I think it is simply a waste of time) - in DA's defense, I would point out that this provider is a bit pricy if you look at what they offer.

Bunny Boy makes a good point. However, there is a possibility this was a "compromised" account, and an ITP is now out the money they paid for legitimate purposes.

Looking at the headers I don't think it was a compromised account.

The email address is quite expensive. I assume if it had been falsely closed then they could appeal.

Sorry... I did wrong... I try to read so much on here, but missed reading about that...

So... my apologies and I've learned ! In my own defence.... I did it for the best of reasons, thinking I was stopping someone applying for a loan they wouldn't get. I listed on SW first so it was searchable.

Lesson learned !

I wish someone would just close this ! I do feel very stupid by now and I should have thought differently about it !
