Hey everybody,

I really enjoy reading scambaits, and have spent a lot of time enjoying this site. But I have some wonderings that I hope someone can help with.

Browsing the Hall of Shame I often find it hard to believe that the scammers could actually be stupid enough to send some of these photos. The photoshop is so bad that I can't see how they would expect anybody to be fooled. So why do they do send them anyway? Does anybody know, or have some ideas?

In particular, this picture http://www.419eater.com/images/hall_of_shame/michael_smith.jpg confuses me. There isn't even any background behind the text, so again, how could anybody ever imagine it would fool anyone?? Does someone know the story behind this particular scam, or have any ideas as to why there isn't a background behind the text?

Short answer: laziness.

It's all about getting a quick payday by doing the least amount of work possible. They prey on the unsuspecting people of the world who act before they think; such people would not really look too closely and should be fooled easily, they figure. Those are the people they're after.

Also: If a photoshop like that is all they are capable then what other options they have? They can only send what they have and hope for the best.

And as always with these scams they must believe into their own scam or they wouldn't be doing it. Ofcource this is where we come in and try to strike into their confidence.

I think that the lad tries as hard as possible, but they usually don't have the time, equipment and skills to do it properly.

you can google for photoshop disasters, and you'll find lots of pics which are modified in a weird way, and it's still good enough for a major newspaper or website.

and then there are quite a lot of people, who just don't notice those mistakes. and those are usually the ones, who believe in weird stories about a pile of money in a box somewhere...
