This Phishing scheme has been running in print, no less, for over 10 years! Possibly a LOT more than 10 years.

This has to be some kind of record, most internet phishing sites go down after a month or two. Of course they never reply to anybody, they just want the info in your resume. (And you probably make over $80k if you reply to this ad). If anybody wanted to bait them, they could sue the newspaper and subpoena the identity of the person placing the ad. It would only cost a few bucks for the small claims court filing fee.

What evidence do you have that this advert is a "phishing scheme" or doing anything illegal at all? Loads of legitimate firms collect CVs and if you've got enough information in your CV to have your identity stolen then you probably need to review your CV.

When I first read about this a few days ago, I thought it might have been placed by an intelligence service as some sort of signal to deep cover agents.

However, it now looks like it is just a long-running advertisement (I presume it must be very effective) to collect a large volume of CVs.

I guess I am not sure of the exact definition of "phishing". This scheme is for the indiscriminate collection of personal information. Such info does have value to various denizens of the internet, but it is not necessarily illegal. Just because personal information COULD be used to break the law, that does not mean that it IS being so used. For example, if you bought a $5 stuffed animal from me and paid by check, then I would have your address and bank account number. Yet the transaction would be perfectly legal, so long as I did not USE that information for nefarious purposes. So I would not accuse the individual who placed the ad of breaking the law, even if I knew who they were.

In which case it's not an accusation you should be making. Wierd though this is I see no evidence that this is a scam. I think someone would have reported it inside ten years if it was into any sort of funny business.

After reading the article, I don't think it's a scam, in the conventional sense either. I don't have a clue what they're looking for, but not AFF.

According to this blog post originally from 2004 , some people believe that this ad has being placed by the hedge fund manager D.E. Shaw to recruit personal assistants.

I'm guessing they would be very hard people to work for and would have a very high turnover rate, explaining why they have to keep running the ad.
