I remember when a car meant a VW. A real one. Not the ersatz modern BS "inspired by" crock o'. No heat worth mentioning, no defroster, no brakes, no power, no seat belts, the windshield 3" from your face. nothing but open hood in front, but absolutely bulletproof. I drove a '62, then a '66, cross-country repeatedly. It's amazing I'm still alive. (Sort of.) Best cars I ever owned. Period. |

Never had a 67 LaSaber, but I had a 64 Ford Fairlane (4 door) w/3 on the tree.
It looked like (and previously was) a car that a little old lady would only drive to the store and back, or to church on Sunday - if it wasn't raining.
Man that car would run. Bone stock, and it would boil the tires from one red light to the next.
Speaking of old cars... I remember laying down on the flat area in the back window and/or standing up in the front seat during long road trips. Seatbelts? We don't need not stinking seatbelts! |

I learned to drive my dad's old farm pickup truck. Something along the lines of this:
The stick shift was on the steering column and I believe he called it what The Pooch said, "A Three on the Tree." Driving across rough pastures when you're 9 or 10 and can barely reach the clutch is probably not the way to go. I stalled it more times than I shifted to second.

My brother bought this car from our grandparents. Yes, my grandmother drove this and I'm sure she never took it over 35.
