Welcome to Eater.

We have a number of Canadian members, such as PastorFrank, for example, who would probably bleed maple syrup if you cut him.

Although maple syrup is good (well really too sweet) I wouldn't want him to bleed it! Of course the way guys love their maple flavour here, he could be in trouble.

Thanks for the reply. I felt the urge to become connected here after getting the address from the TV series show and cruising the website. It seems that the main battlefront is being fought in the UK, but the Internet makes the fight world wide.

If I can help here in Canada, I will gladly do so. Coming from a Scots / UlsterScots background and being very Patriotic to my roots, I feel the need to help out where I can.

Baiting doesn't require a particular location-the members who responded earlier are in Switerland, Australia and the US, so all are welcome.

Be advised: the letter archive gives a picture of what we do, yes, but everyday baiting is not what Shiver et al make it look like. First, to bait like that takes a lot of experience and few of us bother to report all the baiting attempts that have not gone as we would have hoped. Second, even the most recent addition to the archive is already many years old. The game has changed a lot since then, the scammers do some things differently and so do we.

Forming your idea on baiting by reading the letter archive is a bit like driving a luxury car from the 1960s: it's still very cool but no matter how much chrome you put on it, it's still outdated compared to the modern cars. And most of us wouldn't be driving around in a luxury car anyway, but an ordinary Ford.

Reading the forum and the stickies is your best bet for getting up to date on who we are and what we do.

Yes, I realized that the letters were out of date when seeing the actual dates for when they took place. But the ones I read were very interesting and very amusing.

That's why I said that I'd start reading things off the forum. Is there any particular posts (other than the stickies) which one should read first?

I shall indeed apply for a mentor. I just thought that there might be a "Getting Started" or a "Scambaiting 101" thread.

For example, I have looked back through my email on the few accounts that I have and have pulled out all the old email that I believe are scams and placed them in a separate folder.

I thought I'd create a fake alias email address and then reply to one of them to see if I could still get them going.

However, I don't know if this is all as simply creating a fake alias and then start typing, or if there are things that a newby should get in order first, before starting.

That's why I asked if there is a certain thread that I should read first. I just thought that getting a mentor off the top and bugging them with all kinds of questions from a newby may frustrate the person who is trying to be the mentor.

Hi Rap-O! Welcome to Eater- the BEST community on the internet!

You've already been given some great advice, so follow the links, get a mentor and read, read and read some more.

There are several baits in my sig line (none of them mine, just some of my favorites - I can't list them as as there isn't enough room in my sig line) read those and you'll get an idea of different baiting styles and different modalities that we use here.

I do want to advise you on the baits you read here. They are hilarious! Shocking really, if you think about it. How my fellow baiters can get the lads to do what they do always amazes me. Just keep in mind that for every hilarious bait that is published here, there are hundreds of us that just do straight baiting. Straight baiting is you having a character that responds just like a real victim would only that you believe the crap your lad is shoveling at you.

Never, ever tell your lad you know he's scamming you.

You control the bait, not him. (it's always a 'him')

Never, ever tell the lad what is unbelievable and wrong with his scam - that would be educating the lad and we don't do that. We do the opposite and de-educate them as much as possible. Your mentor will go over this in detail. I am just summarizing.

Our goal here is to waste the lads time, money and resources so they don't have it to use on a real victim. We do that by wasting their internet cafe time, phone credits, time, kill their bank accounts and report their credit cards (also called piggies from here on out), kill their fake bank and other websites that they use in Advanced Fee Fraud (AFF). We never, ever involve an Innocent Third Party (ITP), not the police, post office or use a real address in our baits. Again, your mentor will go over this. Don't dismiss the power of straight baiting. A lot of new members come here believing they can do what experienced baiters have taken years to refine, and when it doesn't happen, they leave. That's a shame as there are many more of them than there are of us and we need all the help we can get. So, don't worry about the trophies (safaris, pictures, tattoos) for now, just concentrate on wasting their time, money and resources. Read the "Rosy" thread in my sig line for a perfect example of straight baiting a romance lad and see how despicable they lads are.

It seems to me that there must be a lot of tools out there for one to be able to kill their fake bank, etc..

I would never dream of taking on a complicated scambating gambit right away. I was thinking of something in the way of the "Straight baiting".

My biggest concern before starting one (I think just handling one at a time until I cut my teeth in this is the best way of proceeding), was to make sure that I had everything in order that I might need to do the job to the best of my ability.

I have already been to the Fake name / mail generator sites and have picked out a few names along with information to use. If that is all I need to get started, then I'll start fishing Razz

However, if I need other tools, then I'd much rather have that all in place to start with, before venturing into the water.

That really depends on whether your IP address location is too close for comfort or not. If you go to www.iptrackeronline.com , the homepage will tell you where your IP shows you as being.

If it is too close, then using Gmail or Hotmail/Outlook will automatically mask it - Yahoo doesn't.

The other alternative is using a proxy or VPN to hide it.

The site killers on this site are amazing! One spent 3 hours via Skype giving me a tutorial and helped me kill the two sites in my sig line. (Big Al helped me with Oinker) Real life got in the way and I had to give it up, but now I am getting ready to start again. For site killing, you just need to be more organized and there is a bit of teamwork involved. If you ever feel inclined to help out, read this thread and this thread. You can always ask someone who has a ton of flags in their sig line (flags represent the country where the site was killed) if you are interested in helping out.

Site killing puts a BIG dent in the lads resources. It can kill a scam, cost them a ton of money in hosting and development and lots of frustration. Razz

It's not as glamorous, but is VERY important part of Eater.

I see you've got a mentor! If they don't get to you right away, remember that real life happens (I know, huh? I thought Eater was real life!) and they might not get to you right away. If you have any questions in the mean time, just post in this thread or start a new on in the Help, Hints & Tips forum and you'll be amazed at how many people will come along and help. As much as I'd love to jump right in (I'm chomping at the bit now), I think I'd best take it slow and make sure I'm ready before doing so. I am going to try my hand at Straight Bating and stuff first. I wouldn't have the foggiest idea where to get, or how to use bank/site killing tools at the present time.

I was told my mentor that was assigned to me is Inspector Gadget I'm sure that they will PM me when they can. Actually I'm not even sure where to check to see if I get a PM, as I don't see anything regarding it.

It seems that I don't even know how to use the quote tool. Haha
