Football scammer?

I have read your post with great interest i received an email but he has titled himself as a director agent scout player representative. I am a club secretary for a womens football club and he has asked for a player he is representing to come for a trial. he attached a proile and video of the palyer and i have checked it out on youtube and the video was posted by the player. his english is quite poor. as you read he is asking us to pay for her expenses to cover engish studies thats where the alarm bells starting ringing.

If he's a professional agent, why does he use a mobile phone and free Gmail email address.

What is the normal procedure for a footballer coming from abroad? I'm sure if no one at your club knows then the FA would be able to tell you and also find out if this is a real agent.

ETA:

Where does he claim he and the player are? The phone number is Ugandan, but the video certainly doesn't look like African football - unless Uganda forces blacks and non-black players to play separately as I couldn't see a single black player in the bits I looked at.

Also, a search on the name of the player appears to return someone plying for a club in Spain.

Google search on the player's name https://www.google.co.uk/#q=%22paula+hoya+elecalde%22, giving lots of Spanish sites - looks like she is currently playing for Plantilla S.D. Reocín.

The name is Spanish- so why would a Spanish player, playing in Spain have a Ugandan agent.

Working with another member I took on a gang of scammers who were trying to recruit victims in Africa who were told they could sign up with a company who ran training camps in the USA for fees of course. They made a lot of fake promises. It was quite a sophisticated scam compared with other types of scam we see.

The whole business of unscrupulous soccer agents trying to get money out of parents to promote their children's soccer dreams is quite widespread. African youngsters may be more vulnerable and have unrealistic expectations, but their parents also have much less money to scam.

I don't recognise this as a variation of the scam but obviously no one on planet Earth judges a player's ability by video. It may be that this 'agent' operates by trying to get a club's interest and then tell the player they have an offer. The trouble is that he can't act as an agent unless he's registered and getting involved with such a dubious deal is only likely to do you and your club harm.

Alternatively he could be trying to circumvent immigration rules or just scam you for money but in any event it doesn't make sense to have interest in someone who can't make their own way to you for a trial. If they're not EU citizens then it's unlikely they would be able to enter the UK to play for money unless they were international players.

The principle is that if you can't make it in your own country, why would a UK, US or any European club be interested ?

Yes that was the one vx and it was highly unusual in many aspects with a lot of effort made to make it appear real. Kids can pay to attend camps/courses with major UK Premier League soccer clubs and they're not cheap, but they aren't soccer trials. The same is true in Europe and the USA.

419 scams don't only target Westerners and this one targeted African kids and their families in particular.
