N'yello there, everybody. I'm parrotgrass, joined a couple days ago so most of you won't know me. Anyway, this is my first ever scambait, so it might not be perfect, but I think it's going pretty well so far.

So, picture this:
Rex Flexor, millionaire 90s surfer/stoner stereotype, returns from a day of smoking one illicit substance or another to find some rad guestbooks to sign (aka take a trip to the surplus letters forum). But when doing his thing, he comes along a desperate Syrian named Aisha Ibrahim who's in some financial trouble:

Hello,
Please,my name is Aisha Ibrahim, I am writing you from Syria, the war-torn country. Please, I have a business transaction which involves a huge amount of US dollars, but I cannot complete the business transaction alone except if I partner with you, this is because of the war situation in Syria.

Please, write me on this e-mail: ---------------- so that I can give you the full details of the business transaction so that together we can finalize the transaction, afterwhich we will share the money.

God bless.
Aisha Ibrahim.

Because he's such a good guy, he decides to lend a hand anyway he can, and money's not an object (the bodacious Barbados sun is all he needs):

Hello Mr. Ibrahim!

My name is Rex Flexor. I heard about your desperate financial situation on a pretty rad guestbook I visited, and I am here to help. There is no way I could not aid someone in such a bogus situation, man! I am the CEO of Dick Flexor, Ltd., inherited from my deceased father, Dick Flexor. After dear old dad's passing back in March of '11, I received thousands of dollars. However, I can't possibly use them all, because the bodacious Barbados sun is all I need, so I've decided to give some to others. I can give whatever you need to complete the transaction. If you need money, I can give you up to $25,000 right now, more than enough to get you out of your predicament, and if you need information, I can give that too, broseph. There are a few simple things you will have to do first, but they'll be no trouble at all!

Warm Regards,

Rex Flexor in Barbados (where the sun is hot but the babes are hotter!)

So, the trap is set, and Aisha takes the bait:

Dear Rex,
Thank you for your e-mail in regards to my plea.

Please, I am not asking you to send me $25,000 or anything, all I want is for you to help me complete the transaction.

Please, I am from Syria 26 years single, a nurse by qualification, I was working at George Salem Memorial hospital Aleppo before the war. I wish to relocate to your country for a better life, invest and start a better life there. I need you to be my friend and accept me.

My country is currently struggling with civil war for many years now, it was a pity that I lost my parents on bomb attack in this war while I was away from home, I am the only survival in my family. I am currently living inside the United Nations rescue camp since last year where I am taking refuge. Life inside the refugee camp is unbearable; We are not allowed to use some facilities like mobile phones because of fear of sabotage. I am able to access the Internet through the help of a medical staff working under United Nations here. So far, there is bombings and killings on daily bases in my country.

After the death of my father, I was able to withdraw his savings before our banks stopped functioning because of the war. My father was an oil merchant until his death. I want to use this money and start a new life when I relocate to your country.

This money was transferred from Syria to Turkey through because it was not safe to keep it with me here in Syria.

Last week I received an e-mail from the diplomatic company that I have 14 days to transfer the money out of Turkey or I will risk a chance of losing it to the Turkish Government, because of their money transfer policy.

I have contacted the bank on this development and I was told that I should present somebody or a company to stand on my behalf. I have no choice but to look for someone who can be trusted to stand as my trustee and receive that money on my behalf. I am asking you to stand on my behalf to make this claims so that the money will be transferred to your country for investment purposes. I will also like to further a medical research course.

I offer you 20% of the total money if you can stand and receive it on my behalf in your country, while the remaining 80% will be my investment and research capitals in your country. This money will be transferred to you through a safe means as it is a legal transfer, it is 100% risk free. Please do not hesitate to help me.

It will be my pleasure in getting your response and your willingness to help me and please keep this piece of information about this transaction highly confidential until the fund has been transferred to you in your country.

Regards,
Aisha Ibrahim.

Well, his prospects of working in a hospital that doesn't exist seem pretty bleak, so who can blame him? His offer looks pretty good, so Rex asks what he can do...

More coming soon! Feel free to critique!

LOLz! Goes to show that lads do not read the first reply closely. As you correspond with this fellow you may find that they up their game and pay more attention to what you say. This is sometimes because once a correspondence is established, the scam is passed on to a more experienced scam artist. At that point you may need to play it a bit straighter if you want to keep them on the hook. You can get completely off the wall ridiculous in a short amount of time, but first you should make them believe in you as a victim worth investing time in.

You might want to sign up for a mentor also, which can be very helpful.

I am actually surprised that they even noticed the offer of the money, but the $$$ sign probably jumped out at them.

As an opening email, while it gave you a laugh, it will, as Padme said, have been largely ignored and you just got the next email in the script - a simple one-liner such as "I'm interested" is just as effective.
