For the first time in ten years of baiting, I've managed to morally outrage a lad.

I've never had a lad who couldn't be turned to the dark side for a quick buck, but this latest lad actually said that if my character involved in the evil shit the lad thinks he is (spoiler alert: he is), then the lad will have to call off the deal! (An epic fear inducing bitch-slap ensued.)

I'll post the bait when finished.. I think I can still turn him. Twisted Evil

Is it possible that a lad would feel a sense of moral outrage to the point that he would stop a scam? Shocked

Either he is a lad or he really has 2 trunk boxes containing a total of $73 million USD which he is trying to smuggle out of his country.

He managed to find out (I engineered him "finding out", natch) that my character's work with Drs w/o Borders is a cover story so that he can cross borders and move money without suspicion in order to support his "causes". Since the lad's modality is that he is in Syria and his brother-in-law needs to move a lot of money, I responded that this is great as my organization is involved with giving aid to his war-torn country.

Later, the lad learns that by "giving aid" my character means, provide money to Bashar's army. Apparently the lad is not thrilled with the prospect of his boxes of cash being used to purchase chemical weapons and he says his brother (who owns these mythical boxes of money) is in opposition to the government. -this is where his moral outrage comes in.

I responded that I found this brother's position quite concerning and suggested that this might all be sorted out if he could meet with my friend who is based in Damascus and works for the "strategic department."

Then I asked for his brother-in-law's name and address, explaining that my contact would be happy to visit him personally.

He has not asked for any more money or even alluded that this would "make things more difficult" (ie more expensive).

The lad is completely convinced my character is real, so it will be interesting to see how far this goes.

His outrage could of course be affected, however it is also possible that the lad believes his lies so much that he's started believing in his whole fantasy.

In any case, a true supporter of al-Assad's regime would surely have blood diamonds somewhere in the mix. Twisted Evil

It's interesting that he has not given me the expected response of, "OK we can work with your dodgy pal, but naturally this will cost more money because...bla bla)."

I still have a lot of twists to throw at him, so we'll see. Wink

// in other news, another one of my lads after a number of phone calls, requests for ridiculously documented shipping contracts (gold!), etc. has decided to throw his lot in with al Assad for the price of a 7% fee and some phones for his lad pals.

Maybe he's actually afraid of the government catching on that he's supposedly scamming one of their supporters and is afraid of dying? There's enough victims without being involved with a risky one.

Some Lads will go into fits of outrage over religion. Mal's and Roscoe's atheism has caused Lads to forget the money and go into lengthy bouts of proselytism.

He just sent me another note reaffirming his stand against al Assad. Really, you'd think someone with two massive trunks of money that they've embezzled would be less picky... Wink
