Hello. I recently started looking for a new apartment on the local craigslist. To my surprise, it is full of people trying to "rent" me apartments without ever meeting me or showing me the apartment. I have two people currently waiting for me to send them a rental application.

I am really surprised that this is lucrative enough that it is so prevalent.

Anybody interested in taking a stab?

I am also surprised that so much scamming goes on and like everybody else "new" to this game I find it difficult to believe that so many people are so gullible - but if they were not the scammers would not bother would they?

I am a bit mad that one of them got me to send a picture of my dog when I responded to the listing.

Bastages don't deserve to look at my puppy...

Not to mention wasting my time when I am trying to find an apartment that will accept dogs.

OK I will take this on... I haven't done a property rental scam yet - but all "advance fee frauds" have the same basic structure. Please send me a private message (argyris) if you would like me to have a go. I keep ducks. Whilst the putative landlord tries to clear my deposit cheque (I think he may have problems - particularly with Western Union) I would like to clarify where he stands about the ducks in my bathroom.

You will help a lot of fellow renters if you post the emails, text number and email addresses on our sister site Scamwarners http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/ . Post them in the rental section. This is one way to get back at the scammer.

There is something that you can do. Pull up a chair, read some stickies, set up a baiting email box, roll up your sleeves and have at the scammers. We welcome you.
