I have been baiting this lad for 3 months now on a "refugee girl who inherited millions from her father but can't get it out of the country" scam. After trying to work with her "bank" (Eco Bank of Burkina Faso), which ironically was unable/unwilling to produce an actual bank account (which got them slapped a whole bunch), he switched to have my character work with the Rev Father who overseas the refugee camp. After leading him around the bend as well, the lad has switched over to trying to get me to pay the refugee girl's hospital bill (she fell very ill this week). I told the lad to get me a copy of her bill, and I would pay it immediately. No mention from the lad of how much, so I was basically inviting him to ask for ANY amount of money he wanted. Stupid small boi comes back with $310. That's it! I'm so disappointed.
I was planning to slowly setup a possible safari by having my character volunteer to donate a considerable sum of money to the Rev Father's church/camp/whatever and make a mission trip to West Africa to bring the money in person. But, now I wonder if this lad is too small minded to even go for that.
Does anyone know what determines the amount of money a given lad typically asks for? Are the Burkina Faso lads that much "smaller" than their Nigerian fellows? |

There is a trend of asking for smaller amounts in the hopes of a greater percentage of victims paying.
I think Dr. Mike and TheMonsignor have said that there is a threshold of money, that a baiter should try to keep above, when trying for a safari.

Depends on the format. A WU lad may only ask for $65 in the hopes of a quick buck, but a gold lad will spend some time with you trying to get $25,000 or more. |

I'm sure other factors come into play too. What a lad receives in the process of pulling off a con trick is stolen money that he then has to launder. It is easier to launder lots of small amounts over a series of months or years and it looks more genuine than receiving a large amount in one go as it looks like a legitimate long term income stream. Smaller amounts deposited into a bank are less likely to gain attention than if a huge amount comes in all at once. If he gets lots of small payments he may not necessarily have to bank the money at all he can just spend it and there will be no record of him having that cash other than in the products or services he buys. Once you have given a lad some money in his mind all your cash is his he just needs your help placing and layering it gradually into his account. |
