Had this conversation with a gold lad of mine today over YIM after days of just missing each other. Needless to say this bait is taking a direction I didn't expect at first.

Lad: the sample  is  in dust form

Lad: it cost about  1,000$ to send a  sample  through DHL
Me: lemme see if any of my friends are interested in splitting with me

I'm thinking of having my character have family in the hotel business hence why she can come to Africa. I really want this one to travel.

Will definitely play up the romance angle on this one. Now to figure out a plan to get him to move.

1. Family member dies or gets very ill. Works every time.
2. The Gomers kidnap you. You could get the lad in front of the cam and then call him telling him that you are in [insert random place in Accra here]. Ehen he asks you what the hell you're doing there, tell him that there's where his assistant told you to meet. Then someone asks you to hop in a car and... (great if your character is dumb enough, but usually brings very funny results).

My character is incredibly dumb (she's after gold simply because it's shiny and "in" right now) so something like that would definitely work.

Death of a family member = family member in different African country?

I'm going through the process of the visa for Ghana right now. Maybe I'll be able to get a trophy out of this.

Not necessarily. What I usually do is tell them that my mother/father/grandmother... is very ill (useful to justify sudden silences, I had to rush to her home which is 500 km away, I've been awake all night attending her and I was too tired to answer you...) and the day you're supposed to travel, go silent. The next day, break in the sad news that your loved one is now pushing the daisies, gone to meet his maker and joined the choir invisible. Of course you haven't travelled, how can he be so heartless to think that you'd have done so?

Oh, yes, an excuse like that would definitely work. I'm hoping to get this one to travel to another African country though when the time comes and he's invested enough.

My character is employed within the nightlife industry, born into a wealthy family (hence the money for her frequent outings not to mention the gold.)

I've noticed that she is also a bit superficial and as you say, not so bright. She could easily miss appointments and fail to come through with other promises simply because she is simply too wrapped up in her own "whatever" to remember she has other commitments. For her, it's no big deal. This happens all the time, but it always gets fixed, so don't worry. Why am I picturing Paris Hilton?

When a lad is hooked and your character is unreliable though obviously willing, it can produce some rewarding lad rants--provided you don't over do the unreliability. Scammers want to know that you are doing your best, that you really want this done and that you are on board. If he thinks you are also dumb as a brick he will put up with the nonsense that comes with it because he believes it's proof you're too thick to see the scam.

Regardless, nice bait. I look forward to seeing where you take it.

Indeed, Randy crops up at the most inopportune moments. Poor, weary Lads, having travelled thousands of miles to a SH, sit waiting in Motor Parks for Randy to come and collect them and drive them to their Hotel, where a shower, food and beer await them as they count the huge bundles of cash that they have come to collect from their Magas.

Unfortunately for them, Randy is also a scheming crook and what follows always makes for great audio fun.
