Does anyone have any experience with a scam spammer who uses the alias "Silent Heart"? I got a "music lesson" scam email from him a couple of weeks ago and am playing him. He also uses the name David in his emails although I figure that this is an alias as well. He's using Yahoo webmail (yahoo.es) and his connecting IP address appears to put him with MTN in Lagos, Nigeria. Any information on this bloke that anyone can give me will be appreciated.

You might Google any information you have on them. (E-mail address, Phone Numbers, Etc.)

Also, I hope you are Baiting Safely with this criminal and not using any of your Real Life information. If you are then please drop contact with the scammer, setup an all fake account and start over.

Pixie Fishbane isn't my real name. I had to give Mr. Silent Heart our street address to get his bogus check delivered, and he has our phone number, but I don't think he's very bright. The street address is mildly concerning, but I've pinned this fellow's IP address to an ISP in Lagos, Nigeria from his email headers, which is a bit of a go from where I live. If push came to shove, I could just nuke Fishbane's email address and replace it with another since I run the mail server. What do you think?

I've googled his "name" and email address and come up empty handed, which is why I posted here.

You should be aware that lads and Nigerian lads in particular are known for their networking skills and as you know you can find Nigerians from most of the european cities. This increases the possibility that the scammer has a contact near you and that might lead to all kinds of things if you realy piss of the lad.

Also, do note that posession of a fake cheque is illegal in some countries. Not sure how it is if someone sends you one and cops happen to open it in customs but then again you never know what they might send to you.

Also, we do not talk about anything illegal here and that "nuking" of email seems like a nono. This is to keep those who kindly allow this site to exist out of trouble.

I wouldn't recomend you to use your own phone for this either. If you must talk to him over a phone then get a prepaid or similar service to some cheap phone you might have standing around.

To put this shortly: Do not give any real information that could be used to find you!

Because I run my mail server and "[email protected]" is just an alias for my real email, there's nothing illegal involved here, so not to worry. It's all mine.

Your advice is good. I have this guy's check, but it seems that Pixie Fishbane didn't pay her ISP bill and is about to lose her email account Wink

Her husband, Simon Fishbane still has one, though.

Have you checked your domain registration to see whether it leads back to your RL details?

The guidelines here at Eater are to help insure your safety. I would still recommend that you drop this Lad as he has your real address.

I'm glad that you're not planning to do anything illegal as that's not condoned here at eater either. Please read the Eater Ethic thread so you know we don't Cash bait, send fake ID's, Virus', or Malware. We also don't involve Innocent Third Parties. An example would be giving your pet the phone number of the local police as yours.

Thanks to all of you! I did drop my contact with Silent Heart, although I have a fat cashier's check to show for my effort. Big Al, thanks. The address posted above returns "user unknown" so it's now a non-issue. I changed it right after you posted, and since this was also the address I was using for this forum I changed my profile email address as well, and in the process I managed to get phpBB to deactivate my account Sad

slightlyoutofit kindly fixed the problem and I'm back on the forum. I promised I'd go for a premium account if he'd fix it, which I've done.

BBer, thanks for the heads up on my DN. It did have some RL information in it which I changed. I'll probably move it to my new registrar (gandi.net) which provides free whois data concealment. I still have my phone number exposed, but I consider this a minimal risk, even though there are services which will do a reverse db lookup on it. I will need to expose my PO box since I'll need some point of contact.

Leka, I live in Texas, in the US. I don't believe we have any Nigerian communities anywhere near us, possibly in Houston which is some considerable distance away. No worries about transporting a fake cashier's check through customs. Texas is pretty laissez faire about most stuff like this.

I do have some other questions about a few things such as the meaning of hitpiggy and other icons in folks' sigs but this forum may not be the place to ask them.

Hitpiggy is a piggy that i got from a Hitlad. Hitlad is a type of a scam where a scammer (= "lad") pretends to be a hitman contracted to kill you. These guys are rare and usualy won't give up a piggy easily.

And that pig symbol is a throphy you get when you report an account used by a scammer. Flags are web sites reported and closed down.

Just to mention there is room for an annother site killer. Killing fake sites is a realy good way to hurt lads and also prevent scams.

I just goofed up when changing my profile email address and phpBB locked me out. I emailed him from my RL sysadmin address and probably have a bit of cred based on what I do. In my RL, I've been working with the Internet since the early 90s, and used to be hell on spammers. I got a lot of spammer email and web accounts closed down, I'm sure. I discovered that at one point my RL email address was on a spammers' "don't spam this address!" list. I'm really good at reading email headers and tracking down sites and sources of stuff, although this is a skill that's always in flux and I may be a bit behind the times. The Black Hats and the White Hats are always moving the battlefield around! This stuff is mostly outside the US now, and probably outside the EU and UK as well, so it's harder to do these things. Playing whack-a-mole on scammers sounds like great fun.

Pixie now has a totally anonymous domain name. I did make the big mistake of giving this lad my phone numbers! I got a bunch of calls in quick succession from what looked like an anonymizing phone service - no caller ID - at 6 AM, local time. Woke up, sounded sleepy on the phone, didn't understand the lad very well, and told him he had the wrong number - lame but probably effective. Also got a series of identical text messages from what looked to be a hacked text forwarding account on the US West Coast. Next time, I'll find unused numbers give out!

Get yourself a K7 number and everything will go to voicemail, or being in the US you may have options with Skype and GoogleTalk - a US baiter will have a better idea.

Yeah, we use Youmail but that's strictly a voicemail service for my RL mobile #. There are probably ways to get a free phone number here w. no connection to a voice line, POTS or mobile.

BTW, I could use some education with regard to such things Eater Bait Sites and associating identities with them, and any other creative bating strategies people are using. Is there a FAQ? I believe I saw something on this forum about getting a mentor - someone smart and knowledgeable (and patient) who can answer questions from someone who's smart and un-knowledgeable about some of this stuff.

Our Mentors are very good and 100% Risky free. There is a FAQ section to look at.

Then I can add that strategies are as different as the many types of scams. Which one you choose is up to you but sometimes modalities are better with certain lads. Some find Ghanian Golds Lads more suseptable to Safaris.

My basic modality is to just play along with their game until they ask me to send money by Western Union. Then I press for a bank account so it can be reported.

Since you are a Premium Member, there is a USA dropbox down in the Premium section you can have checks set to in the future rather than use your own mailing address. You might meander down there and check that out.

Big Al, I have a PoC for a lad's Western Union account. What's the procedure with WU for reporting this and getting it closed down?

WU doesn't use accounts. That is just the payment info you are supposed to use to send the money.

What you are going to do is to say that WU office told you that you should not use their services for that sort of business and you should only send money by WU to Friends and Family. Or generaly only to people who you have met in person. Lad is going to suggest that you use MG instead so you wait for some time and tell the lad that MG told you the same. You should try to steer the conversation towards using bank-to-bank transfer. When he gives you that bank account then you can report it.

You do the reporting by sending it to Moderators. You can send it to any moderator or you can simply click the appropriate button on lower right corner of every message. And then there is that reporting tool reserved only to gold -club.

Pixie is in the Gold club. There are two links down with the Premuim link that you can utilize. One is for reporting Credit Card info and the other is for Bank account info.

Thanks. I've dropped contact with "silent heart" and except for some phone calls in badly broken English with no caller ID (another two came in a few minutes ago) I'm out of touch with him. My standard reply to phone calls which come in with anonymized caller ID is to state my company name and ask how I might direct the call. Most trash-callers hang up.

Although I really appreciate the help and advice that y'all have posted here, I should probably leave this thread alone since anything further will probably be OT.
