My character is a council leader on Orkney and is my caricature of a Scottish islander. Always starts his emails with:
Hoots Mon to you, (lad name)!
'Hoots Mon' is (as far as the lad is concerned) a "typical Orkney greeting" but in reality is ... well.... gibberish!
