I got a new one: the European High Commission apparently has almost six million British Pounds for me as an unpaid beneficiary (of what?), only the first I’m hearing about it is AFTER somebody has told the guy at the bank that I am dead! Plus, in addition to declaring me dead (reportedly with a death certificate and funeral details), this other guys has “Vital Documents” I created to allow this other person to collect my funds. My guy at the bank is very surprised. In his words: “Honestly, it really baffles me that you took such decision without the consent of this bank”. (Aside: Is this a mix up in the script? Did this supposedly happen before my falsely reported death, or should that be a different scam? Or is this a case of trying to create panic on top of panic at my end?)
Anyway, their investigations (LOL) have found that foreigners are collaborating with retired staffs to make changes to people’s bank accounts. All I need to do is “help us reach a conclusion that you are not dead” by providing full name, address, age, next of kin, etc. Once that happens, the other guy “may face arrest if lying or trying to steal someone’s money” (more LOL)
The writer uses better grammar than we’re used to seeing here, but he still makes some mistakes that show he is not a native English speaker. And while he claims to be from a real bank, named for the horses that pull the beer wagon at the Super Bowl, his “From” email doesn’t even pretend to spoof that bank’s email address and has a .my suffix, surprising for a London bank, n’est pas? And, a person who really is a “Senior Mnager” at a London Bank would not misspell manager, I think.

That sounds like one of the ones I got, only mine was from a security company. Fortunately, the "company director" alerted me to this, and he was even kind enough to send a picture from the meeting where the people who were trying to steal my money got arrested. Laughing

No, this is his script, it's an "are you dead?" modality we are seeing more often now.
To re-stake your claim to the funds, you're going to need to prove you are alive. I'm sure the documentation you're going to need to over-ride the fraud-star's vital documentation is going to cost you an arm and a leg...

I've had that type of script a fair few times, but it rarely seems to last too long. Mostly they devolve into a standard modality after just a few exchanges.

One method I've used to hold things up is to insist on the ones claiming my death to be arrested right away; they might have assumed their confederates had killed me and gone early to claim the money!

Yup, that's their script. As insane as it seems, it must work because I've seen it three or four times now. Unfortunately for the lads it is also a very confusing script to follow - especially if the "victim" is more interested in getting the potential murderers arrested than claiming their funds. And especially if the "victim" then emails the lad from a few different accounts ALSO claiming to be that person. Lad confusion, frustration, and pain follow. With a generous helping of amusement value for the baiter.
