hi all, just a new member sayin hello, been reading some of the baits and dont think ive laughed as much in quite a while, i tried to bait a scammer a while ago, about 6 to 7 years, thats how long its been since ive got any scam emails, although in the past month ive been getting them thick and fast.

this seems odd to me as recently ive been complaining to different companies and organisations that have been lets say annoying me, would it just be a coincidence that im getting these scam emails not long after complaining, or are they purposely giving them to these scammers to piss me off. any thoughts just seems weird to me.

When you complain do you put the complaint online along with your email address?

Could be that then.
Another way your email address would get distributed is like this:

You get a spam e-mail, maybe advertising something you are uninterested in, such as Calais or penis enlargement. There may be a link at the bottom to 'unsubscribe', which you may innocently do.

If you do, you can pretty much guarantee that your address will be harvested and sold on.

So - don't unsubscribe unless it is a bona-fide company where you initially subscribed to emails in the first place.

funny one of the companies is a lender and i opted out of their future marketing at the bottom of the page to only receive another email 3 days later, obviously this was it then.

My advice, create a "junk" email account for any business you do online and keep your private email just that, private.

ok i used the ip tracker from this site on one of the emails and it came back mountain view california not only that but moffett federal airfield lol should i be concerned ?

Mountain view is Google HQ. all gmail emails resolve there. So no, don't worry.

If you get a location in a military airfield, IPtracker is probably mistaking a version number for an IP address. Look at the headers by eye and run whois (or jwhois) on the relevant IP address by hand.
