For those who claim that the lads are simply trying to scrape by and feed their families:

"In a good month, depending on the number of contacts, I could earn between 5,000 and 12,000 euros - sometimes 15,000," he says.
And what did he spend all his money on? "Swag," he replies, with a smile. "You know, women, going out… clothes, perfume." |

| "You know, when I was doing it, some part of me felt guilty," he replies. "But then you just say to yourself, it's only money. So no, now I don't have any regrets. That's it." |
The government's increased efforts to prevent and punish are encouraging though. |

It sure is good that the government there takes this problem seriously.
Interviews with retired lads i never take seriously:

| And it is as simple as that. His "lover" would transfer the money, and as soon as he had his hands on the cash he would vanish from their magical online romance. |
This makes it sound less bad, but in reality, once a lad receives money from a victim of a romance scam, they try to do everything in their power to fleece the victim untill they are broke and often with a huge debt. There is no logic in leaving a paying victim. |

| Last year alone they made nearly 100 arrests, naming and shaming the convicted criminals on the government website, while the cyber crime law, passed last May, has introduced prison sentences of up to 20 years |
So it seems that the Plateforme de Lutte Contre la Cybercriminalite (PLCC).
is making progress maybe I am cynical but probably just a drop in the Ocean..... |

I agree that they don't leave a paying or working victim. My Ex-wife's friend who was the reason I wound up here recently came back to me saying she had been being scammed since 2009. She was muling money and doing other tasks for her scammer. She had documented handling $14,000.00 for her scammer since 2009. She said he had her buy chocolate & flowers for someone one time and he was asking her to make phone calls posing as his secretary which she claimed she never did. She also said she spent an entire month living with him & his two children in Texas. I googled the address she claimed to be living at. Turns out it had been recently sold for 2.5 million dollars and the photos she had were not the same as the ones from the online listing. I told her to drop communication with him and to beware of others coming right back at her. |

That should read "all the cash". |
