I recieved an email today and it is clearly a scam. What can I do?? DO I need to pass it to someone or ignore it altogether. Thanks in advance

You can ignore it if you wish or go to our Sister site and do a search to see if that E-mail address is already listed at the site. If it is then just go on your merry way. If it isn't then please post the E-mail address and Header in the appropriate section to help warn others. Be sure to remove your E-mail information.

Also post it in Surplus. Before you post, look for an unusual name in the text (e.g. one I posted claimed to be from Alimata Raja) and see if there are any scams posted with that name and the same format.
*If there are no scams with the same name, post it as new.
*If there are, and the Reply-To address is different, post it in the same thread. This helps us keep track of the scammer's changing email addresses.
*If there are, and the address is the same, post it only if the previous mail was posted more than a couple of months ago. (This applies only to SW. Old Surplus messages are deleted from time to time.)

Note the subject lines for messages in Surplus and messages in SW. They are different. The address posted in the subject in SW should be the one the scammer wants replies sent to. Before you post the email, remove your name and address.

Hi Dannii and welcome.
I assume this scam email arrived in your normal email inbox, yes?
If that's the case, you have probably left your email address somewhere on the internet in a um... less than favourable place - possibly a guestbook on someone's website.

To reduce the amount of scam and spam emails you receive, just be careful where you put your email address - the world is full of people looking to 'harvest' email addresses off the web, it's big business!

Of course, here on Eater we purposely leave our specially created email addresses out there waiting to be found, and found they are!

I'm pleased to see you aren't going to be one of the unfortunates who end up getting scammed, you've come to the right place. Smile

Welcome to Eater-you already heard the excellent advice above. If you posted it or decided it had been addressed by other postings, definitely delete it. If your are interested in baiting, never do it from a personal account. Do not respond in any way.
