That's so sad,what complete arsewipes these people are.

Sympathy can only go so far for me. She admits she knew she was getting nowt back, yet kept sending them money, therefore making them continue their scams, self perpetuating if you will. She doesn't look hungry in her pictures, to be honest.

She has an interesting point of view, in that -

"Mrs Kneller added: 'All the mail that I have been getting I realised was spam mail, spam letters - but it does get you all excited and they shouldn't do that to old people, it's not right."

Yet the story begins with "Sylvia Kneller, 76, began receiving letters from fraudsters when she was 20".

I look at it differently, Ewok.

These scum victimized someone who obviously has some level of diminshed reasoning capacity. As one who (for hereditary reasons) fears slowly losing his own ability while neverhtelss being aware of it slipping away, she has my deepest sympathy.

One should avoid falling into the same trap as the "They only scam the stupid and greedy" crowd and that of the scammers themselves.

It can be tempting to blame someone who is scammed when reason should keep it from happening. But that is how these people work. They depend on their victims' hopes overriding thier reason and they depend on the rest of us (especially their governements) looking the other way because the victims somehow deserved it.

This has been mentioned before but let's say it again:

Scammers are criminals who are only interested of getting their victims money. There is nothing that changes the fact that they are criminals.

Lehigh Guy. I do feel desperately sorry for her. I can not speculate and think it would be wrong of me to comment on her mental health. The story we are making our opinions known on, is of course from the Daily Fail. I do stand by my comments though.

If I were really offered a million zillion pounds for doing nothing I would snatch off the hand of the kind person doing so. Probably why I buy the occasional Lotto ticket! I would say she has been gullible as opposed to "greedy" or "stupid."

Remove the victim, remove the scammers. Of course, you don't need me to tell you that, please don't think for a moment I am attempting to do so. The difficulty of conversing this way is the age old one of interpretation.

I sincerely hope that your fears are unfounded!

I think that what you need to understand is that the 419 scammers will send out 1000's of 'prospective' hits a day.

They know that they may not get a response that day but on one day all they need is that 1 person that may bite. Thats where the game begins.

Obviously some people just give up instantly and rush to WU/MG but others try to form a friendship that the lads are willing to do. Its just the same as what we are doing to them in a way in that its reverse psychology.

The thing is that in the UK, at least, you take your victim as you find them.

If for example you hit a guy , nothing major of a hit, and he falls onto the pavement and he already had a weakness of his skeletal system or he had an aneurysm of the brain. Are you suggesting that if the guy breaks his legs or he dies from a bleed on the brain the perpetrator shouldn't be responsible? The fact that you shouldn't have hit the guy in the first place

I myself have been scammed whilst I was suffering from a myriad of medical complaints. I couldn't pay the rent but the lovely loan lad helped me out via Moneygram. Ahh the sweet ecstasy of knowing that there was a way out! More fool me ! Took what little money I had at the time and that was that.

In essence whether it be a loan/ love or investment scam etc these people the 419 lads are preying upon people that through no fault of their own are VULNERABLE. Hence the bombing of emails because if you send the emails out , it costs nothing in all honesty. Gone are the days when the scammer had to place magazine/paper adds and await a pityful response.

These guys are playing on peoples insecurity and vulnerability, its not a case of them been stupid. Perhaps they are lonely, ill or desperate for money to make ends meet. But when they are that way they certainly don't need chief Omogugu and his tribe taking advantage.

My current bait knows that my husband died 2 weeks ago yet he is still pushing pushing pushing for WU. Lets put it this way - if a double decker bus drove right into me tomorrow would the person 'offering help' care???

The Scammer deserves everything that he/she gets as they are parasites and as shown in the article at the top of the thread easy pickings are traded between them. Lads will have 'sold' her identity for a fast buck.

So how would you feel if you were been traded around the net if all you had done was ask for help or wanted a bit of love ?

Please try a little empathy in the fact that NOBODY deserves to be scammed when they are INNOCENT parties.

And hey if the victim has mental health issues or is disabled then that just makes the whole scam even more diaboliocal.

The main thing is that as a group we take the bastards down, bank by bank, phone by phone, site by site and just generally make it impossible for them to Bomb. We may never claim a total victory but every day we 'save' so many people as the lads are too busy running about building stuff and been complete asses in the hope of Finnegan s Rainbow.

This is not a personal slight at all but please be a little more careful with your words

Scammers love vulnerable people. If you are elderly they will go after your savings. If you are lonely they will romance you and then claim distress. If you have crippling debts they will employ you as a money mule. In all cases they will gain your trust, isolate you from help, gain control, persuade you to keep quiet and take what they want. It's the classic model of most abusive relationships and just as damaging as any other.

As a former victim, I can tell you the attention given by someone else can be very addictive. I loved the sound of Yahoo Messenger, hearing words of love from my scammer, even waking at 2 am and impacting my sleep for work. I had a hard time giving it up when I knew I was dealing with a scammer. It's easy to see it after the fact, after someone tells you to take a breath and really look at what you're doing. But in the middle of it? Even if you consider yourself an intelligent person, all it takes is for someone to exploit one vulnerabilty.
I still get mad at myself for letting it happen but I took that pain and here I am, baiting and causing pain on behalf of every victim they could hurt instead of me.

I'm not being patronising SweetPoison when I say that I'm impressed. It's usually the case that ex-victims don't make good baiters for many reasons, but above all because it acts as a reminder of what happened to them. The fact that you can face it, and also befriend those who caused you so much pain evidences that you have come a very long way.

You have an insight that few other baiters, including myself, possess.

I have had moments TB where I had tears running down my face while baiting. I realized I was reliving a moment when I was scammed. It has actually helped me heal to see how well crafted my scammer was when going after me. It is also why I chat sometimes for hours- it was a big deal that connected me with my scammer and I will waste my time to waste their time. I will never be the one with the most piggies but I will always be one of the ones who appreciates everything done by everyone here to keep the scum away from victims.

Never been 'had', but I think I can understand how it can happen. It's all to do with the state of mind of the victim.

I, too, find it difficult to believe how anyone could get duped by these people, but then, I understand that I'm looking at it all with a healthy, well-balanced state of mind.

If I was in desperate money trouble, or suffering severe depression, I would expect my view of an incoming e-mail offing allsorts would be somewhat different.

Bottom line is that those being scammed are no less intelligent than average, (sometimes a fair bit above) and yet it continues to happen.

We can't stop the scammers, only slow them down; I can only hope no-one I know personally ever gets scammed in this way.
