Hi all,

Apologies in advance for newbie questions. Someone is actively trying to scam me and I have all of the emails documenting it. Have gone to the relevant authorities (police, FBI, IC3) and getting nowhere. Would like to stop this guy from scamming others. Where should I post this information and what can be done?

Here we are mainly focused on baiting. If you have been targeted by this scammer in real life we do not advise baiting them as they have your real life information and we always encourage safe baiting here.

Also, I wouldn't get too fixated on this one particular scammer, because, in all likelihood, you'll never get him to stop. That would either require a lengthy prison sentence or a miraculous religious conversion that shows him the error of his sinful ways.

Better to attack the scammer community at large, and chip away bit by bit, as we all do. While we take what we do seriously, we don't pretend it will stop internet scamming. That doesn't mean we can't take delight in trying. Wink

If no money changed hands, no crime has been committed. In advance fee fraud (which we deal with) LE is generally impotent due to jurisdictional issues. Also, it is usually not a high priority among law enforcement agencies, especially in the country where he scammer is operating.

Welcome to Eater! As 4x1x9 said, Scamwarners is the place to go. Post the first few emails from the scammer, and any fake pictures, passports, or certificates (fakemarking them), including full headers but omitting your name and address. The first few emails are script; the lad says the same thing to everyone. After that, we get them off script and mess with them.

It's an international crime, so unfortunately no way it can be effectively dealt with.

However, what we do here does interfere with the efficiency of their operations in a small way - the proverbial pube in the coffee cup if you like. It's all we can do, but at least it's something, and slows them down.
