Hi there,

Perhaps the topic is misplaced, but I´m exchanging messages with a Scammer, and he gave me his number ( he is available to call me if I need assistance on payments).

So what can I do in terms of baiting? How to make him pay a lot for a phone call, or any other phone issues.

Hi, and welcome to our humble abode here at Eater. Smile

First of all: Does your scammer know any of your RL info, including name, real mail address, street address, phone number etc? If he does, please drop all contact immediately. Scammers are criminals, and while the risk of him wasting time on tracking you down is remote, it's better to be safe than sorry. You can always create a fake mail account and bait him again.

As for your question: There are several things you can do with a lad on phone. If you choose to spend a little money on dropping him a short call (Skype offers cheap rates and is a neat and versatile phone tool), it will lend a lot of credibility to your bait - a lot of lads wants their victims to call them, just to know that the victim is real.

However, some baiters have the principle that they refuse to spend as much as a single cent on baiting a scammer. If that's a point of view you share, there are a couple of other possibilities:

- You could get an unregistered Pay-2-Go sim card, and have him call that.

- You could get a virtual voicemail service - www.k7.net offers a free service, that even lets you record your own welcome message.

- You could pay for a Skype number, and the lad can call you directly at Skype from his normal phone, without revealing your Skype ID in any way.

- You can use the free Ring2Me service, which pretty much is the same as a Skype number, with the small difference that Ring2Me works as a number extension, rather than a normal looking number.

Some of us here at Eater have spent a lot time talking to lads over the phone. It's great fun and gives an adrenaline kick (at least until you get used to it), and there are addon tools and clever extensions and software solutions, that can enhance your use of the phone tremendously. At that time my character was in Mozambique trying to get into South Africa, so I was expecting calls in the wee hours of the morning. My character is now back in San Francisco, so the lad called in the evening when I was quite awake.

The baiting bunch at skype are great and scammer Saturdays are a lot of fun to join in or just listen to. You really don't even have to pay for a standard setup so until you are comfortable and have time to decide if it's for you, you can talk and chat with others and maybe bait a few strays that seem to find you.

Oh yes. I love to drunk dial lads and ask for "George." Completely unconnected with any bait (I don't bait) or any sense of reality for that matter, I insist to talk to George. It has not yet dawned on a lad that I wrote down their mobile phone number from the 'contact us' page on their fake website. The lad is waiting for calls from people who want to know how to collect their 'funds.'

Skype is on when my computer is on, and my computer is on when I'm awake. And even then I can tell it to shut up if I want. When I want: some lads have been so persistent on calling me that after their baiter has been done with them, I have made sure they get lots of extra phone calls at inconvenient times. Part of the fun. Smile
