EFCC 368 cases to court and 80 convictions?

Just been doing some reading up on the Efcc (The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) in Nigeria who are the main policing unit of financial crimes / fraud in Nigeria. I was pretty amazed at the following quote from their website . . .

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has charged 368 cases to court and recorded 80 convictions at the end of August, 2013. Within the same period, the Commission recorded the following recoveries: N6,583,108,350 ; $19,251,519; 20,520 Euros and 19,000 Pounds Sterling

I am amazed for two reasons.

1) that is not much money for an 8 month period - scammers that I am gaining the trust of claim to be making far more than that. . .

2) That the EFCC have charged 368 people but only 80 convictions.

Knowing how corrupt the system is in that area of the world, I am not surprised that the might be a correlation between my point 1 and 2.

However, i am pleased that there is some presence from the EFCC and also some convictions.

What are your views?

My view is that the EFCC probably only arrested the 80 cases that could not make their <strike>bribe payment</strike> bail. I have sent descriptions, pictures, RL identity information on scammers, along with evidence..... the silver platter. They couldn't be bothered with it.

They are about as useless as it comes when talking about LE. Unless it means they are making less in bribe money or if it means putting on a good cop publicity stunt in front of the cameras, they really do not care.

Thats my thinking of them. Do the lads over there see them as a serious threat to their livelyhoods or do they just take a small cut / bribe?

^^^ Not sure what lads think about them but i would bet that this organisation is going to be underfunded and undestaffed since it is in Nigeria. And it doesn't matter if EFCC is corrupt as the whole legal system in Nigeria is corrupt. They are going to be overwhelmed with case load so i'm kind of surprized that they get anything done.

As for sending information to them i wouldn't put too much hope on that as they propably try to catch bigger fishes.
