My favourite character was having a very productive time on a certain dating site, (more scammers than real people, a bit like FMF) when they snagged a really interesting one .

Very interesting dialogue ensued, during which they mysteriously changed location from UK to an African Island ("classic scammer move", I thought).

I waited , and waited , and waited for the "Help !- send money" . . . Nothing . . . Just an ongoing (& very eclectic) dialogue.

A couple of times along the way, the thought had crossed my mind that it just might be an i.t.p, but I'd discounted it. That was a BIG mistake in retrospect .

The unfortunate i.t.p. (who just happened to be on holiday) had sussed something was amiss & come to the conclusion I was some kind of scammer myself.

I 'bent' the rules of "bait safe" ever so slightly to try & explain myself (without compromising my identity) - I owed them that much at least , but the damage had been done.

They were upset & angry.

I feel genuinely awful for messing someone about like that , and I'm now blocked from the site (on which, I'd been doing a lot of good until then).

So the moral is ; Never get complacent , Always question "might this NOT be a scammer ?" , (even if you're working a site that seems wall-to-wall lads), and if there's a miniscule doubt, Be prepared to walk away.

Gutted .

Very true. There are way too many risky free lads out there to take a chance with an ITP. Lesson learned and get back to baiting. Smile

I did seriously consider taking a break from baiting for a while (it's knocked my confidence in my own judgement a bit)

. . . but there's much good to be done, I'll have to take it as a reminder to take care & 'get back on the horse'.

All you can do is your best to avoid the ITPs but no screen is perfect. You backed out and apologized-again the best you could.

So chalk it up. Open another gmail and get back on site and back to doing good work.

There's always the possibility of course that this person was a lad you've baited before who got suspicious, then contacted you again posing as an I.T.P, fishing for an admission out of you of what you're really up to, so he can have you blocked as a non-genuine profile to stop you baiting him and his lad buddies.

We use sneaky tactics and sometimes so do they. They may have won this battle, but they haven't won the war.
