So about 3 weeks ago, I decided to play dumb and pretend to be a victim of one of those inheritance fund scams. It was highly enjoyable to the point where I even added a few bucks to my Google Voice account to make some calls to the Ivory Coast. I found out about 419eater a couple days before my first scambait ended, and tried to get this guy to use the <a href="http://www.thespts.ru">thescripts.ru</a>. He said it's blocked in his country for security, after many attempts to get him to send me a screenshot, I finally gave up.

Over the weekend I found the massive lad mail lists on ScamBatingTools, sent a simple "Yes, how can we start this transaction?" message BCC'd to all 500+ emails. The last two days have been interesting!

One of my more interesting baits is about "Senior FBI Agent" Robert Muller, sending me crap from a @yahoo.com.sg address, asking to send a $55 delivery fee to FBI headquarters in Benin Republic. We've had 45 back and forth emails so far. One unusual thing about this guy is he number is US-based one. I tried calling, first time got the message saying "This magic-jack phone number is currently unavailable". Told him I tried calling and it didn't work, then successfully spoke with him for 10 minutes. He has a thick Asian accent and I could barely understand a word he said, so it wasn't much fun talking.

That got me thinking, for responding to others asking for my phone number, what do you think about giving out the one that belongs to Senior FBI Agent Muller? That idea of two scammers each unknowingly talking to the other got me thinking of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz9ra9FqNKQ">this prank video</a>. I could make a whole character based on Robert Muller.

Being a beginner to scambaiting, I have some questions to the more experienced folks regarding what to do under specific situations. I'll list the situation and what I currently do. If you guys have any better approaches, please tell me!

When asked for name, address, phone #, age, sex, scan of passport, etc
I usually say "for your convenience, I put all the information you asked for in this word document that I attached" ('forgetting' to attach it). Then send a corrupted word file, then finally send the fake information in the body of the email (but no passport). They ask for a passport, I just say I don't have one, or say I'm on business travel away from the house.

When given Money Gram / Western Union payment info early on
Sometimes, I ask if they prefer one over the other. Sometimes I say, "I'll make the payment during my lunch hour tomorrow". I saw on this forum a list of fake forms, I'll try to start using those! Also, to one scammer I said, "The MoneyGram agent said that receiver is on a black list, and didn't let me make the payment. What is going on, are you trying to scam me?!?!" They always give a receiver's name - is there some site to report these names?

When someone claims to be from a large organization, bank, ministry of justice, etc
I ask for them to use their work or government email address for security, and for them to show me their website. Of course they don't listen and just get mad for my refusal to follow their script.

Other areas I need help with:

When asked for bank account info
Do I give random numbers for the account / rounting / swift code? Are there any real bank account #s made purposely for these scams to try and detect where the fraudulent activity is coming from?

When they get impatient, go off script, and demand me to follow all their orders
What are the best delaying tactics that calm them down?

Pretending to travel to Africa to collect my funds
Are there any recommended fake airlines ticket generators? When are opportune times to say, "forget the DHL delivery fee, I'll pick up my money box in person" and ask for the closest airport?

I can't think of anything else right now, but if I do, I'll add it.

They are not going to send you money nor check if the info is real, so fake details work as well as any. It's just a a form...sorry, modality.

Matter of taste, but I haven't ever bothered with the tickets. I mean, if I'm going to travel and the lad is going to meet me, why in the world should he see my ticket? The only information he needs is my flight and the arrival date and time. In the past I have used Kayak to see the real flight schedules and taken the most inconvenient from those.

Re: airline info most booking site, including the airlines them selves will let you put together an itinerary in final form before you have to hit the "pay" button. Just screenshoot or save it, and cancel. In these days of etickets that's all most people use anyway.

It seems you are already diving in to the Internet blood sport of scam baiting. The #1 rule for safe scam baiting is to never use any real life information. If you have used any real email addresses or real info on the baits you have started, drop them all immediately and get some fake email accounts for your baiting characters. We all are protected here behind layers of anonymity; it's the only safe way to go.

If you haven't read the thread about signing up for a mentor, I highly recommend it. The mentors are seasoned baiters with loads of experience. They have made themselves available to mentor new baiters and to get them through their first baits. You can get a mentor at this link:

I have some made-up bank accounts at made-up banks for my characters. The routing numbers and SWIFT codes are well-formed, but nonexistent.

For plane trips, I send the lad several lines that look like "2013-08-28 15:43 MOS KE 2348 2013-08-29 01:13 JFK". I do that in real life too. I look up real flights online and make up an itinerary.

As for me, I always use another lad's bank account to fulfill their request. There's very little chance they'll ever even take notice of it, but if they do...fun may appear.

(But I doubt it.)

Anything that would involve him telling the truth! Details about the business deals-odds are he has only superficial knowledge of whatever business he's supposed to be doing. Problem is when you start asking for more details, he might twig.
