What should I do when my scammer runs out of money?

I'm baiting someone at the minute. The stratergy for the bait is.

1) The scammer has been scamming on amateur radio forums. He sells items he does not have.

2) I contacted him, said I was buying for a club, and asked if he had an Icom 7600 tranceiver.

3) Naturally he had the transceiver, and we agreed on £1800 (GBP)

4) The main character (Nick) is on holiday without any internet access, but he has a phone.

5) The scammer is ringing Nick from Nigeria to get a code to release the money. The code is a 256-bit MD5 checksum, which consists of 32 hex characters (0-9 and A-F)

6) Due to the scammers inability to understand English very well, he has difficulty getting the code, so uses up lots of time on the phone to an expensive 070 number in the UK.

It is clear from some comments of his in these voice recordings that he can't afford to pay the telephone bill. Smile

He now needs to get another code, but he lied today, and said he tried to get the code but "the phone was not going". He has been told he has 24 hours to get a code, or the deal will be cancelled. He has said he will do that. I believe the reason he has not tried over the past few days is the phone calls are crippling him.

I intend running his phone bill up so much he can't afford to phone any more. I don't know whether to drop him at that point, or continue the bait. In some ways I could perhaps give him a bit of time to come up with more money to phone again. Or perhaps I should just say he has failed to do what he needs to do, and we will purchase the transceiver from elsewhere.

Assuming he does work in Nigeria, and does something apart from scamming, when is he likely to get paid? End of the week, end of the day?

Any thougths what I should do once I have got him to the point he can't afford to phone any more?

I do have him ofering to supply 4 pieces of "virtual goods", as I contacted him under 4 different names, asked for 4 different things, and of course he can supply all 4. But it is less clear how I can run up his phone bill on the other 3 baits. There is the possibility of him having to produce FAXes - something I have done in the past. But he would reconise the voice if I got him making voice calls.

he'll find money, no worries, just start a fifth one and ask for something really expensive like a fluxcapasitor transformer those go for about 12.000-18.000 he'll find ways to contact you.
Now tell him that that kind of money has to go by bank only and collect some piggy's Twisted Evil

Fax is good, the complete manual of course all 120 pages (he has to print them first and then fax, makes 0.25 x 120 that's money for him Laughing

)
keep pumping him for bank accounts in the meantime and have your own pigsty Wink

And then tell him that the new one is out in China, better faster and 80 megajoulle, can he deliver that one? And skip the previous item then, bring him up in expectations and slowly drain him further. Evil or Very Mad

I did think of getting him to quote for something expensive. Since he deals in virtual amateur radio equipment, he might deal in virtual radio frequency test equipment. There's an Agilent E8361C PNA vector network analyzer (VNA) on eBay

for $95,000, so I was thinking of asking to quote for one of them, rather than a fluxcapacitor, as he might feel more confortable on items he has multiple pictures of.

I did wonder about the piggies. He has given me two bank accounts, but this is not a classic 419 fraud, as I did contact him first. I can't say he contacted me trying to scam me, as he did not. I was aware he was scamming, so contacted him. I don't know if Alan would want such accounts, but I do have two of them from him. The first was "status orange", which meant the bank advised us not to transfer the money. He told me that account was in the process of being upgraded, which was why the problem occured, so he supplied his wifes bank account - a different surname I would add.

I've collected FAXes in the past, with my first bait also costing the scammer a fortune.

I do love to feel they are paying financially for these scams. Flextel 070 numbers are great for this, as they are very expensive to phone!
