It's a scam and welcome here
Someone else might have CC-ed to others, they might have guessed it or gotten it of a list on the server, but it seems a bit strange.
Worse case scenario you have/had a virus like program going over your computer, but that's not their style, too much work with no money in sight, do a scan and forget I mentioned it.
They usual bulk email so I wouldn't worry about it, change your password and it should be okay.
Return here as others with real brains might have a better answer
hope this helped a bit |

I've heard of scripts that basically just generate a kerzillion combinations of letters @whatever.com and then they just bulk email all of them. Sure 2/3 might bounce, but the 1/3 that get through is all they care about. So it could just be something like that. |

Im actually more annoyed.
Since i have gotten that first one i have since had four or so more in the last week. Now i would LOVE to do the scam-baiting, However im Military, and they tend to frown on you doing things like that...so i just get to sit back and laugh about all of the other success stories.
I dont want to lose this email addy though...Suggestions to block them from my email? |

Unfortunately, once the lads get an email address, they don't let up. You have a couple options: if it's Gmail, you can train it by marking the spam. Gmail uses a smart algorithm that does a pretty good job. If it's another type of email, you can set up filters that look for keywords.
My advice is to read them, chuckle, and delete. Or you can post them in our Surplus forum if they're particularly amusing, and we'll entertain them for a while. |
