Started baiting this lad . Here's the original email (collected from another email account and copied over to my baiting account)

From Dr. Harry Williams,

I believe my letter will meet you in good health and your finest mood today; my name is Dr. Harry Williams, Private Auditor General Barclay's Credit Group bank London. I decided to seek a confidential co-operation with you in the execution of the deal described here-under for our both mutual benefit and urge you to keep it a top secret because of the nature of the transaction. During the auditing of bank accounts at Barclay's Credit Group bank, I discovered an abandon and unclaimed fund amount to GBP£26,400.000 .00 (Twenty six million, Four hundred thousand British Pounds) in an account that belongs to one of our deceased foreign customer, late Mr. Paul Louis Halley who was the seventh richest man in France, He died with his entire family on Dec, 2003 Air-Crash. You can confirm through this website:

Please visit this website for more information about the death of Mr.
Paul Louis Halley:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/oxfordshire/4537663.stm
After going through his personal file in my bank, I discovered that he died without any specific heir to these funds, such I make this contact seeking your consent to present you as the next of kin/ heir to the deceased so that the proceeds of this bank account valued at GBP£26.4 Million will be released to you as the beneficiary, which will be shared in percentage ratio of 60: 40 between me and you respectively. All I request of you is your utmost sincere co-operation; trust and maximum confidentiality to achieve this deal successfully. I have carefully worked out the modalities for execution of this transaction under a legitimate arrangement to protect you from any breach of the law both in your country and here in England during and after the transfer of the fund to your bank account. Upon your consideration and acceptance of this offer, kindly send to me;
Your Full Name:
Your Full Address:
Your Date of Birth:
Your Mobile;
Your Office:
Your Fax no:
Your Occupation:
Your Scan copy of international passport or your delivers license
So I can enter your details into Barclay's Credit Group bank database as to appear in the bank system that you are the named next of kin /heir beneficiary of the fund, and then I will guide your communication with Barclay's Credit Group Bank for the immediate release and transfer of the fund to you, please reply to my private e-mail: ( [email protected] ) for proper confidential and security reasons.

Thanks in appreciation and anticipation of your urgent response.

Best regards,
Dr. Harry Williams,

Dear Sir/Doctor,
I received this email in my inbox. I think there has been some mix up in the delivery of this confidential email and so will delete it forthwith. It is obviously not meant for me, so I must assume, you put the address wrongly in the recipient box , or perhaps there is a problem with the internet routing script of your email client?

Yours Sincerely

Leonard Grimshaw Esq

My reply to this most excellent news. Cool

Dear Doctor Williams, thanks for your timely response, I'm a bit unsure as to how we proceed here, My bank might be a bit wary if such a large amount were paid into it in one transaction. The largest transaction into my account was £3.4 million some years ago when I won the National Lottery in the UK. Please don't tell anyone about this as I chose no publicity, as I live on my own. Even my own greedy relatives don't know of this win (although my brother has his suspicions) (He wondered how I could afford a new car every year)
Because of the secrecy of my lottery win, I cannot reveal my address to anyone. My phone number is ex directory (although my close family and friends know of the number). I still work in my mundane job and still only work part time hours to keep up the appearances of not having much money, although I do holiday abroad about 4 times per year, but tell friends and family I have only gone to Skegness or Blackpool for the week or two.
I do hope you understand , as adverse publicity in this country can make one a target for all sorts of beggars and charities, who would try to drain my lottery win.
I may be out of touch starting 21st of June as I'm off on holiday. My relations think I'm going to Mabelthorpe for the week, but I'm really going to Puerto Banus in Spain. So please don't mention this to anyone.

Kind Regards

Thanks for your response. I wish to state here that all that you just wrote down will remain between you and I as I have no reason whatsoever to reveal the source of your income to anybody. Meanwhile,I must say that the amount cannot be transferred once into your account leading to you have whatever problem with your bank afterward but we will favorably work out a way to ensure the money is successfully transferred into your account as we proceed with the possible transfer modalities.

Importantly,I need you to confirm to me if you are ready to work with me to ensure that the transfer is effected and it shall remain a top secret between us. If Yes,I need you to get back to me as soon as possible so we can proceed.

Thanks in appreciation and anticipation of your urgent response.

Leonard gets suspicious though Wink Wink
Quote:
Dear Doctor Williams, as much as I like money, I'm still not sure of this proposal. It sounds very risky to me. I'd like to know , what are the chances of being caught out, either by the banking authorities, or even the police? I know they have strict regulations in this country about the transfer of money (something to do with money laundering)
I do have a Spanish bank account with Santander, which may attract less suspicion though. Perhaps if the money was split between the two accounts, it may succeed in either fooling the bank people, at least this would be less suspicious.

Kind Regards
Leonard Grimshaw Esq.

But the good Doctor allays his groundless fears.

Thanks for your swift response once more. It is exactly the point am trying to convey to you as I understand the strict rules of banks but you must know that you will be very much in a position to ask the money to be split to how many accounts you have or we will even resort to the possible use of a delivery agent to carry the money through to your house in bulk inform of a consignment. We have very many unlimited options but that will be determined between you and the board of the Barclay's Credit Group once you name is queued into their database successfully as the beneficiary of the said fund OK?

I need you to confirm your interest in this and I can promise you that you will have no trace of any means as I will protect you from this end and all I need from you is to stand in as the beneficiary to ensure the money is transferred into your designated account in any country of your choice as I hope you will not abscond with the money and shall remain in your place and in touch till we have successfully met to share the money when transferred. I hope my explanations are clear here for you.

Thanks for your anticipated cooperation Sir.

Dear Doctor Williams, Sorry about the earlier email. I called at a drinking establishment on my way home from work, and met a few old friends. Well one drink led to another, and before I knew it was almost 6 o clock and I was very drunk. I got a taxi home from the pub and see your email in my box, and stupidly tried to reply to it. I am so sorry if it doesn't make much sense, but alcohol affects me quite badly, due to a hormone imbalance in my lower pancreas. My doctor has advised me against drinking too much alcohol. I assure you I'm nearly sobered up , after a good sleepy lie down. My head still hurts a bit though.
Anyway I digress. I will give you the information you ask.

(All info is false ) I even give him my office phone number which is off a well known advert on TV here for double glazing (you buy one you get one free. I said you buy one you get one free) Laughing Laughing Laughing (Naughty I know but I doubt he'll be wanting double glazing any time soon)

I just back up the details a bit
Quote:
Dear Doctor Williams, Please not, I will be at work tomorrow until 14:30 and will not arrive back home until 15:00, so if you email me in the morning I will not be replying until after 15:00hrs

Kindest Regards

Leonard N Grimshaw Esq

PS I am now completely sober and am going to fetch my car from the car park of the pub.

The good Dr is now after my passport or drivers licence.
Quote:
Attention: Leonard N Grimshaw.

I acknowledged the receipt of your details, Kindly send a scanned copy of your International passport or Valid driver's license because I need it to upload your information in our bank's database so that your name and picture will appear as the beneficiary of the fund.

Waiting to receive it.

Thanks in appreciation and anticipation of your urgent response.

Best regards,

Dr. Harry Williams,

I then delay further as I don't have a scanner and am very dubious about sending a copy of my passport.
Quote:
Dear Doctor Williams, I don't have a scanner, therefore I'm unable to copy my passport or driving licence. I think it's against the law here to photocopy passports (only UK Banks can hold copies of passports, by existing customers only) As I'm not a customer of the bank where this fund is, I'd be breaking the law here in the UK. All seems lost now I'm afraid, as I dare not break the law again in this country. About ten years ago I accidentally killed someone whilst driving and spent 6 yrs in prison for causing death by careless driving. A memory which even today shames me and comes back to haunt me. (hence my reason for sometimes getting very drunk) As a result, I'm on what the authorities call permanent licence, which means if I so much as break any law, I could possibly end up back in prison. I do hope you understand this. Only a few months ago I was in a pub having a quiet drink when a man tried to start some trouble with me and I dare not even fight back, but had to even let him hit me.
I don't know how we can move forward on this enterprise without the passport or driving licence, so maybe I might not be of any use to you. If you can think of anyway around this, please let me know.
I'm off out shortly as I play darts for our local team and it's a cup match tonight. Our team is in the semi finals of the inter club cup and if we win, we'll be guaranteed a trophy and some medals.
I should be back around 12:00am this evening , but will be going straight to bed, so if you reply, I won't be able to read your message until tomorrow.

Kindest Regards

Leonard Grimshaw Esq

Well I never heard any more from him until 8 days had passed (good job I looked at my replies earlier and realised I'm now supposed to be in sunny Espana)

Got this

In respect our transaction success, you should be aware that I am very worried and ensuring better precaution to ensure that nothing happens to this funds, because this is the only financial reference of my destiny. I must secure these funds from every perspective to ensure that it is properly delivered without any suspect or problems. However, I wish to inform you that it will not be possible to transfer this fund to your account within England because the fund do not have any history of taxation and also to make sure that there is no history of fund move within England to your account. Therefore I have made a solid arrangement to move the fund out of UK territory to another European country, while in any of the Europe country it will be very easy to transfer to your account in UK.

To ensure safety and simple delivery, I was referred to a particular Multinational Financial Preservation firm in Spain that will be responsible in receiving the consignment this Multinational firm will be responsible in preserving and securing the funds to avoid Money laundry or questioning by any government Authority. I had contact with them on mail and they have agreed to assist us in delivering the funds to Spain without any problem or questioning by authority due to their financial delivery influence.

I must reveal to you that we are very lucky to receive an assistance from this Multinational Financial Preservation firm in Spain , I have explained virtually all the situations and they have promised to contact you with their official policies after they have received the consignment from United Kingdom.

Conclusively, I am assuring you that the funds shall get to Spain successfully with the assistance of this great firm, It does not have to be Cargo or posting but a hand delivery process after the funds are secured and preserved to avoid Money laundry or custom check to secure your personality as the beneficiary. This fund is my only hope of survival, it means a lot to me and my future. Your previous mails have built confidence and trust. We shall ensure safety and progress.

I rattled a reply off to him (after some research in the internet,, Google is our friend)
Quote:
Dear Dr Williams, I had given up hope of ever hearing from you. I have read your email with interest and have noticed that you can transfer this moneys to Spain. This is most excellent news as I'm in Spain at this very moment. I'm answering this from the Banus Internet Cafe on Av. Julio Iglesias, here in Puerto Banus, where the sun has shone, but it is now overcast, but still a very warm 75 degrees at the moment. I'm here for another week now, until the 5th July. I know this doesn't leave much time for any money transfers, but I shall be returning here towards the end of August for 10 days (although I may stay in Marbella just up the road).
Well I must close now as I'm going to Jacks American Brasserie tonight for a meal and a few drinks with a lovely senorita I know for a few years here in Spain. (only a few drinks though as I never get drunk abroad since I was mugged by someone unknown to me a few years ago in Torremolinos)

I will check my emails tomorrow afternoon though, and look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest Regards

Leonard N Grimshaw.

Anyway the Dr now wants my phone number here in the sunny Costa Del Sol. so I quickly sidestep this.
Quote:
My dear Dr Williams, I did take my mobile phone with me, unfortunately I forgot to pack my phone charger (think I left it on the kitchen worktop back home) Sadly I only received a few text message (the usual welcome to Movistar, Youigo, Orange, Vodafone, etc) before the battery was depleted. I'm now spending a few days with the lovely Senorita Gonzales, but will ask if I can use her telephone. Can you give me your phone number and I will try to contact you either later on today or perhaps tomorrow (at least over the weekend)

Kind Regards

And my last reply from the great Dr

Attention: Leonard N Grimshaw.

I acknowledge the receipt of your e-mail, regarding your last e-mail here is my direct mobile telephone number. (Tel# +447024012566) you can ring me so that we discuss in details because I’m working towards the possibility of delivering this fund to you in Spain latest on monday or Tuesday .

Meanwhile kindly get back in your next e-mail with your lovely Senorita Gonzales, telephone number for more discussion and guild lines.

Yours sincerely

Thanks in appreciation and anticipation of your urgent response.

I'm now a bit stuck as to what my next step is though. I can't possibly phone him , nor really give him a contact number (specially in Spain) I'm now toying with the idea of getting a PAYG Sim Card and giving him that number (only for scambaiting purposes) and asking him to phone me. (can't hurt getting him to spend some of his own ill gotten gains) I have noticed his phone number has changed since the first communication and do wonder if he's either part of a team or has passed this on to someone else (although the email addy is still the same) Wink Wink

I'm open to ideas about how to continue this bait though. I have a million excuses for not accessing my mail whilst there (golfing, fishing, drinking etc)

I know you only meant to mislead the lad, and I don't mean to spoil your fun, but this is something you shouldn't really do. Involving innocent third-parties (ITPs) is frowned upon here. An ITP is any person or group that isn't complicit in the scam or its associated bait. Unfortunately, Safestyle falls safely into this category.

Ahh sorry about that, (should have read the sticky's first.) and noted for future reference.
Just out of interest, how many scammers would actually follow up on a phone number? (given that a lot of them want you to phone them ( and not them phone you)

It's alright, and at least you know for future reference that it's not protocol to involve ITPs.

To answer your question: If the scammer believes he'll be able to steal money from a victim, there's a good chance he'll make the effort and call them. Scammers like to speak to their mark on the phone, as it eases their mind in knowing they aren't dealing with a "joker". Obviously, it varies from scammer to scammer - they might be lowlifes of the first water, but they are after all still human and therefore all have their own unique personality traits and idiosyncrasies. But as a rule of thumb, if there's potential to steal money from someone, it's in the lad's best interest to make every effort to establish trust and further instill their pack of lies with their potential victim.

From a baiting standpoint, they serve two main purposes. Wasting the lad's time and resources (intercontinental mobile network calls can be very expensive), as well as an aid to keep the bait going. Again, it eases the lad's mind and gives the baiter integrity as an unsuspecting and co-operative victim (just what the lad wants, as in straight baiting).

Hopefully this answers your question. Smile

Hi Yes,
Even though we all hate those ads, the people who answer the phones are just doing a job an are ITP's. You would be better getting an old mobile with a simcard for incoming calls only. I'm sure most people have an old phone lying around. If you don't bother registering the sim, you won't have to provide details but can make incoming calls only.
Either that or sign up for skype and pay a few pounds for a number.
