I don't know how to tell if this is real or not, for the purpose of shutting down the account. This information was just sent to me this morning as a pic but I'll write down what they sent here.

I replied to this by asking Reverend Elvis if it was ok for me to transfer the $2,500 directly from my bank account into this one that he just sent me (my noon account??) I am hoping that if he says yes then that implies that this is a real active account number full of Elvis money that we can shut down Very Happy

And maybe a piggy for my siggy too lol

If it is a fake account then apologies for wasting anyone's time...I'm still new to this..

Swift code is completely bogus.

Also the "Central Bank of Nigeria" is kind of like the Bank of England or the Federal Reserve; its not a bank you'd expect to be able to have a customer account at.

"Harry Balls" is my character name. I thought it went well with the pic I use for my character..

I figured the bank name was fake since they always use that bank name, but I was hoping the account number and swift code were real. I guess I will have to complain that I can't xfer the fee into that account for whatever reason and that I need him to send a different bank account for me to xfer the fee into. sigh....

^^^ It's unusual for a lad to send you fake details if they are expecting you to pay money into the account (after all - they WANT that money).

maybe, his lad has a baiter as mule.

tell him, you've sent the money, use the generator for a receipt and incorporate a code for this baiter. maybe your bank is in 41 Nineroad Eton. hopefully the baiter recognizes this and starts searching here.

the other possibility would be that the lad is really that stupid, that he thinks, he can go there and claim the money... meaning he does not even know how bank transfers work. (I would not educate him in this case)

You need to get the context of the account.

If it is an account that the scammer has apparently set up for him to transfer your $ millions into then it is a fake account and not reportable.

If it is an account that the scammer is asking you to transfer money into then it is (unless the lad is really stupid) a real account that can be reported.

Mules are victims who have been scammed into using their bank accounts to receive payments on behalf of the scammer. When the whole scam falls over (when another victim realises they've been scammed) they are the ones left holding the can.

It's possible that a baiter has tricked the lad into believing that he'll work as a mule for him, and sent him fake bank details, which a west african lad ought not recognize but an european/north american ought to.
Anyway, don't educate him! Tell him you have some kind of problem with the transfer, and have him send you another account which, hopefully will work.

I would tell him, that sending worked (and if he wants this receipt, give it with a small hint for this possibly baitermule).

It's always laddys fault that there was no money and he would search for the problem somewhere else than at the senders address.

To be precise: it is a well-formed SWIFT code, but the country code does not match the country where the bank claims to be located. One of my characters' SWIFT codes has that problem; the other doesn't, but they're both puns.

As to "Harry Balls", there was a mayor named Harry Baals, and there's also a Hairy Ball theorem.
